Hip Replacement

My right hip aches. My right knee feels strained. My left foot still hurts. My right foot hurts. My doctor has indicated that I may need a hip replacement in the next few years. I hope that I will not need a hip replacement. I have developed these symptoms because I had a severe lawnmower accident that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot. I realize that it could be much worse.

I wish that I could have prevented my lawn mower accident. Thus, I strive to rescue other individuals, families, and institutions from experiencing the pain and suffering associated with yard accidents.

Thus, I want to promote yard safety awareness. Be yard safe! Think yard safety! Think before you cut. It hurts! Be a yard safety crusader!

Owner's Manual

Always read the lawnmower owner's manual for operating and care instructions. The owner's manual will provide instruction on fueling the machine and on proper use. Many lawnmower and yard accidents are preventable. Learn the controls well enough to act instantly in an emergency and to stop the machine quickly.

Maintenance and Repair

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man shares the following yard safety mainentance and repair tips:

Make sure that blade settings (to set the wheel height or dislodge debris) are done by an adult, with the mower off and the spark plug removed or disconnected.

Turning the blade is extremely dangerous; it can have the same effect as pulling the start cord. Although an engine has been shut off, even a slight movement of the blade can restart the engine.

If you have an electric mower, unplug the power cord before inspecting or cleaning it. You could be seriously injured if you try to make repairs to live electrical components in your mower.

Before each use, inspect power tools for frayed power cords and cracked or broken casings. Keep lawnmowers in good working order with sharp blades. Maintenance. Maintenance. Maintenance.

Never use fingers to remove grass or debris from lawnmower blades; use a stick, long handled scraper or broom handle - not your hand or feet - to remove debris in lawnmowers.

Do not tamper with safety release switches; do not remove safety devices, shields or guards on switches, and keep hands and feet away from moving parts. Never alter a product or remove safety features such as blade guards or electric plug grounding pins.

Be sure the motor is off before inspecting or repairing lawnmower equipment.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has heard many horror stories about individuals chopping-off fingers, hands, arms, toes, feet, legs (to name a few body parts), blasting their body with debris, getting severely burned (to mention a few accidents) because they did not think before they started the maintenance and repair work of yard equipment.

Always read the lawnmower owner's manual for operating and care instructions. The owner's manual will provide instruction on fueling the machine and on proper use; many lawnmower accidents are preventable. Learn the controls well enough to act instantly in an emergency and to stop the machine quickly.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is here today so that yard accidents go away.

Refueling

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man provides yard safety tips on refueling the mower and other yard equipment as follows:

Start and refuel mowers outdoors, not in a garage or shed.
Mowers should be refueled with the motor turned off and cool.
Never smoke when filling the gas tank.
Avoid gasoline spills (be good to Mother Nature.)

Earth Day Weekend

Earth Day will take place this Sunday, April 22, 2007. Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment.

"May there only be peaceful and cheerful Earth Days to come for our beautiful Spaceship Earth as it continues to spin and circle in frigid space with its warm and fragile cargo of animate life." -- United Nations Secretary-General U Thant, March 21, 1971

Responding to wide spread environmental degradation, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million people participated and it is now observed each year by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries.

Earth Day proved extremely popular in the United States and around the world. The first Earth Day, in 1970, had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, roughly ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities across the United States. More importantly, it "brought 20 million Americans out into the spring sunshine for peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reform."

Now observed in 175 countries, and coordinated by the non-profit Earth Day Network, http://www.earthday.org, Earth Day is the largest secular modern-day holiday in the world. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wishes to acknowledge Wikipedia for providing most of the information above on Earth Day.

Likewise, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man hopes that history will repeat itself with regards to yard safety awareness. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has given birth to Yard Safety Awareness Day. It is a celebration of yard safety advocacy, awareness, conscience, discovery, enlightenment, environment, implementation, innovation, practice, protection, solution, and zero yard accidents.

Yard Safety Awareness Day is the first day of each season of the year.

Be yard safe! Think yard safety! Think before you cut. It hurts!

VT Orange and Maroon Effect

Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an "Orange and Maroon Effect" day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday, and to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and friends. "Orange and Maroon Effect" was born several years ago as an invitation to Tech fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletic events. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man invites everyone from all over the country to be a part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday, to wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, and to support the school and community.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will honor those killed in the tragic massacre by wearing Orange and Maroon striped socks this Friday, April 20th, instead of his signature red, yellow, and green striped socks. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is sad. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man forgives. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man supports the Hokie family, at least in spirit and socks.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

In industrial and safety circles, safety gear is referred to as Personal Protective Equipment - affectionately known as PPE. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man encourages all yard workers to wear your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as follows:

Wear sturdy closed-toe safety protective shoes with slip-proof soles (never mow in your bare feet, sandals or sneakers).
Wear close-fitting clothing (long pants)
Wear gloves.
Wear protective safety eyeglasses.
Wear hearing protection.
Wear a respirator.
Wear a helmet with face shield.

Hills or Slopes

Riding mowers have the potential to tip or roll over if used on slopes or steep hills, which can result in serious injury; use caution when mowing hills and slopes. Mow across a hill or slope with a push mower. Mow up and down a hill or slope with a riding mower. Do not mow on inclines greater than 15 degrees; use a trimmer or landscape with some ground cover (ivy, stones, etc.) to reduce the risk.

Be yard safe! Think before you cut. It hurts!

Caregiver

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a caregiver. Caregivers are people who take care of other adults, most often parents or spouses, who are ill or disabled.

As the American population ages, the number of caregivers and the demands placed on them will grow. About one in four American families or 22.4 million households care for someone over the age of 50. The number of American households involved in caregiving may reach 39 million by 2007.

Caregiver stress is the emotional strain of caregiving. Studies show that caregiving takes a toll on physical and emotional health. Caregivers are more likely to suffer from depression than their peers. Limited research suggests that caregivers may also be more likely to have health problems like diabetes and heart disease than non-caregivers.
Caring for another person takes a lot of time, effort, and work. Plus, most caregivers juggle caregiving with full-time jobs and parenting. In the process, caregivers put their own needs aside. Caregivers often report that it is difficult to look after their own health in terms of exercise, nutrition, and doctor's visits. So, caregivers often end up feeling angry, anxious, isolated, and sad.

It is important to note that caring for another person can also create positive emotional change. Aside from feeling stress, many caregivers say their role has had many positive effects on their lives. For example, caregivers report that caregiving has given them a sense of purpose. They say that their role makes them feel useful, capable and that they are making a difference in the life of a loved one.

Caregivers who work outside the home should consider taking some time off. If you are feeling overwhelmed, taking a break from your job may help you get back on track. Employees covered under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act may be able to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year to care for relatives. Ask your human resources office about options for unpaid leave.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man suggests that you must take care of yourself in order to take care of others.

Horatio Alger Award

Each year, the Horatio Alger Association bestows the Horatio Alger Award on truly outstanding Americans. Association Members are dedicated community leaders who demonstrate individual initiative and a commitment to excellence—as exemplified by remarkable achievements accomplished through honesty, hard work, self-reliance, and perseverance. All Members have a strong commitment to assisting those less fortunate than themselves and a loyalty and devotion to American ideals and the American free enterprise system. Each recipient becomes a lifetime Member of the Association. The Horatio Alger Awards ceremony took place last week April 12-14, 2007. Again, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man did not receive a Horatio Alger Award. In the spirit of the award, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will continue his march to overcome adversity and demonstrate the characteristics befitting of a Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans honoree.

Horatio Alger, Jr. (January 13, 1832 – July 18, 1899) was a 19th-century American author who wrote over 130 dime novels. Many of his works have been described as rags to riches stories, illustrating how down-and-out boys might be able to achieve the American dream of wealth and success through hard work, courage, determination, and concern for others. He is noted as a significant figure in the history of American cultural and social ideals. (Accessed from Wikepedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Alger)

Also, I can indentify with the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. Founded in 1947, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans continues to fulfill its mission of honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals in our society who have succeeded in spite of adversity and of encouraging young people to pursue their dreams through higher education. The Association brings the “Horatio Alger Heroes” of today together with those of tomorrow by bestowing the Horatio Alger Award each year and by awarding more than $8.5 million annually in college scholarships to young people. Horatio Alger Scholars have faced challenges and realize that a college education is the avenue to a better future. The Association also provides its scholarship recipients with financial aid counseling, and internship and job placement assistance. (Accessed from the Horatio Alger website http://www.horatioalger.org/)

I first became aware of the Horatio Alger Award while working at Bear Stearns, the investment bank headquartered in New York City. Mr. Alan "Ace" Greenberg was presented the Horatio Alger Award in 1997. "When Greenberg was 31, two major events happened—one would put him on top of the financial world; the other had the ability to bring it all crashing down. Greenberg was named a partner of Bear Stearns, and he was diagnosed with a cancer that had less than a 50 percent survival rate. Greenberg faced both challenges with his usual courage and confidence. He underwent surgery and began months of convalescence. For the next 12 years he had checkups at the Mayo Clinic every six months." I can relate to Mr. Alan "Ace" Greenberg, the legendary CEO and Chairman of Bear Stearns (now Chairman of the Executive Committee) who overcame much adversity in his life to become such a personal and professional success. Actually, I can relate to the adversity part of his life. Also, there are many household names who have achieved the Horatio Alger Award.

Likewise, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has experienced considerable adversity, including some significant setbacks associated with his severe lawn mower accident. I have been inspired by the many life stories of the Horatio Alger Heroes and Scholars. I hope to be presented the Horatio Alger Award and join a great team of man and women who overcame adversity often times for the betterment of mankind.

The Pittsburgh Experiment

The Pittsburgh Experiment Works!

The Pittsburgh Experiment means so much to me. I have experienced some difficult times in my life. I have suffered for various reasons, including some difficult people and circumstances. I have always maintained a sense of hope through my faith in God. I really have a friend in Jesus. Furthermore, I am blessed with the existence of the Pittsburgh Experiment and all of the many wonderful people in the Pittsburgh faith-based community, especially Carter Birely. I have experienced many situations where people have thought that I was a flake or not worthy. As a divine channel, it was Carter Birely who expressed unconditional love to reach out and help me. Indeed, it is through his endless quest to help people that Carter carries on the spirit of the Pittsburgh Experiment.

Regardless of whatever happens to me in my life, the Pittsburgh Experiment has made a lasting mark on my soul. Presently, I am faced with another challenge. My mom has an aggressive case of uterine cancer. It is through my belief in God that I praise everything that my mom has done for me. Also, I believe that my mom will get better. In many eyes, I am a loser. My mom has never stopped believing in me. I may never really succeed in a traditional or materialistic sense. However, I have learned the most important gift of God, and that is to love and forgive everyone.

Likewise, from the early days of the Pittsburgh Experiment to today, it is unconditional love coupled with innovation, intelligence, and soul that has resulted in better overall lives for many many people. It really means a tremendous amount to me. THANK YOU!

About The Pittsburgh Experiment
(accessed from The Pittsburgh Experiment website)

The Experiment is a Christian inter-denominational ministry, which provides spiritual resources to business, professional and working people (including senior-management levels) and to area churches. Built on helping Western Pennsylvanians to apply their faith in day-to-day business relationships, The Experiment also has focused on individuals suffering from job stress and corporate downsizing. In its four and a half decades, The Experiment has had a positive long-term effect on thousands of lives. Its success has led to the establishment of similar groups in Cincinnati, Cleveland-Akron and Columbus (OH), Park Ridge (NJ), Jacksonville (FL), Mobile (AL) Portland (ME) and Jackson (MS), and also in Australia, Canada, East Africa, Sweden and Zaire. The Experiment has close ties to the ministry of the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale via The National Experiment & Guideposts and its roots are linked to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. The current Executive Director is the Rev. Carter Bierly.

The Rev. Samuel Moor Shoemaker, whose ideas strongly influenced the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous, founded The Pittsburgh Experiment in 1955. From 1952-61, Dr. Shoemaker served as Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church of Pittsburgh, following a 26-year career as Rector of Calvary Protestant Episcopal Church in New York City. In 1955, Newsweek named him as one of the 10 greatest preachers in the United States, and Time profiled him in "God & Steel in Pittsburgh". In 1956, the Pittsburgh Jaycees named him Man of the Year in Religion. The birthing vision challenge for The Experiment in the 1950's was "to make Pittsburgh as famous for God as it is for steel". Former Directors include The Rev. William, H. Cohea ('55-'58), Mr. Paul M. Offill ('58-'60), The Rev. Donald T. James ('60-'69), and The Rev. Paul F. Everett ('69-'95).

The Pittsburgh Experiment name is a reference to the "30 Day Prayer Experiment". Many individuals are introduced to the ministry through this activity, which revolves around two or more people joining together daily in prayer for 30 days to pray about a circumstance in their personal or professional lives. Through praying, the individuals become more aware of God's presence in their lives. Sometimes those praying witness a resolution to the matter through a change in the circumstances, and sometimes they witness a change in themselves as a result of prayer.

Please visit http://www.pghexp.org for more information on The Pittsburgh Experiment. Indeed, The Pittsburgh Experiment works! THANK YOU!

VT Mass Murderer

The Virginia Tech mass murderer was identified as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, as the gunman in Monday's shooting rampage on Virginia Tech's campus. He killed 32 and then took his own life. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is so sad. I am sad for Cho because he was so disturbed that he wanted to massacre people. His psychotic behavior terminated the lives of some academics who were teaching scholars to develop and expand their minds to eventually solve life problems. The Virginia Tech community and beyond will rally together to help one another. The world community will help as well. The Hokie will bounce back, forgive, and rejoice. Help Hokie.

In the meantime, there are yard accidents happening every day. There has been enough tragedy. Be yard safe! Think before you cut. It hurts!

Hokie Help

The Hokie Bird is the mascot of Virginia Tech. It is a turkey-like creature. The Virginia Tech's sports teams are called the Hokies. The word, which originated from the Old Hokie spirit yell, penned in 1896, is often used interchangeably with "Fighting Gobblers" to refer to sports teams, fans, students, or alumni. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man hears the Old Hokie spirit yell and recent cry. The Hokies need comfort during this sad time of tragedy. Feed the turkey your love. Hokie Help.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

The United States Congress established Days of Remembrance as our nation’s annual commemoration of victims of the Holocaust, just as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is our permanent living memorial to those victims. This year Holocaust Remembrance Day is Sunday, April 15, 2007.

When World War II ended in 1945, six million European Jews were dead, including more than one million Jewish children. All Jews were targeted for death, but children were among the most vulnerable victims of the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The very young, like the very old, were often the first victims in the ghettos of German-occupied eastern Europe. Many children died from lack of food, clothing, and shelter, as well as from diseases that flourished in the unsanitary and overcrowded conditions imposed in the ghettos.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is not Jewish. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. recently. He learned that if he had lived in Germany (Nazi region) during the era of the Holocaust that he would have probably been killed or sterilized due to his disability and his desire to reachout to other disabled individuals. Furthermore, his creative and zestful artistic expression would have been suppressed and spanked. Think before you cut. It hurts. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has been persecuted as well.

Please visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website http://www.ushmm.org/remembrance/dor/years/2007/ for additional information on Days of Remembrance.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man feels sad about the Holocaust! In addition, please recognize other nations who have experienced genocide as well.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man remembers!

Tribute to Jackie Robinson

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson made his historic debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers, becoming the first African American to play major league baseball in the 20th century. He went on to win the Rookie of the Year Award that season. Jackie Robinson burst onto the scene in 1947, breaking baseball's color barrier and bringing the Negro leagues' electrifying style of play to the majors. He quickly became baseball's top drawing card and a symbol of hope to millions of Americans. With Robinson as the catalyst, the Dodgers won six pennants in his 10 seasons. He dominated games on the base paths, stealing home 19 times while riling opposing pitchers with his daring baserunning style. Robinson was named National League MVP in 1949, leading the loop in hitting (.342) and steals (37), while knocking in 124 runs.

Branch Rickey believed in Jackie Robinson. After a mediocre career as a player and manager, Branch Rickey spent half a century in the front office as baseball's greatest visionary executive. With the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1920s and '30s, Rickey invented the modern farm system, promoting a new way of training and developing players. Later with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he pioneered the utilization of baseball statistics. In 1945, he became the first executive to break baseball's color line when he signed Jackie Robinson, who became the major leagues' first African-American player in the 20th century.

This Sunday, April 15, 2007, marks the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in the national pastime. More than 200 Major League Baseball players will wear No. 42 to commemorate the historic debut of Jackie Robinson.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will wear No. 42 on his cape today as a tribute to Jackie Robinson. Also, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will cut 42 blades of grass today with grass shears to honor Jackie Robinson.

Yard Safety Fashion

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a caped crusader and yard safety super hero working tirelessly to prevent lawn mower accidents and to promote yard safety. I advocate for yard safety awareness. I strive to educate and entertain with regards to my yard safety message. I think outside of the box, and I have created some innovative products and services. My goal is to eliminate yard accidents. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will donate to educational and charitable purposes.

Each year, there are over 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yardwork accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. In addition, the estimated medical, legal, insurance and disability costs and other expenses of these injuries are over a billion dollars each year. I want to present preventive measures to rescue (hence, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) - a real-life caped crusader for yard safety) individuals and families from going through the dreaded experience associated with lawn mower accidents.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has launched a clothing line. His mission is larger than selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other apparel. The goal is to create yard safety awareness. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a caped crusader and yard safety super hero working tirelessly to prevent lawn mower accidents and to promote yard safety. “I created and designed the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man clothing line with the vision that people will support my advocacy, and they will spread the yard safety message via their wardrobe,” shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

Rescue Rick is a renaissance yardman, utilizing various art forms to communicate his safety message. “I want to educate and entertain the general public regarding the importance of yard safety. Lawn mower accidents happen in a split-second, often resulting in life-altering outcomes that sometimes include amputation. I learned this from first-hand experience when I amputated part of my left foot while cutting the grass,” shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. "The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man fashion apparel provides a neat gift idea with a purpose."

Please support the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man mission. "As a show of support for yard safety awareness and a tribute to all those people who have gotten hurt, including severe amputations, I encourage children and adults alike to wear the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man clothes. Digital Totem Pole

The Native Americans who live in the Pacific Northwest use their giant trees to make beautiful art. The most well known type of art made by Pacific Northwest Natives is the totem pole. Totem poles are made for the purpose of telling a story! Some poles tell Native American legends, often about animals who did important things. The story that a totem pole tells is like a poem, which is read from the bottom to the top of the pole. Many things are said with only a few words. In this spirit, I introduce the concept of the digital totem pole (tm) to tell my story - the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man "legend."

I have created a digital totem pole on my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man website (http://www.rescuerick.com). It is a vertical stack of digital photographs and clip art that tells my yard accident story in reverse chronological order. I have always been intrigued by the art, the concept, and the origins of the totem pole. I salute Native Americans for a brilliant idea.

Yin and Yang

There is a Yin and Yang with regards to man and machine. Sometimes the machine does work properly and sometimes man does not operate the machine properly. There is a resultant disconnect in the operation and the process breaksdown - sometimes resulting in a severe yard accident.

The Yin-Yang symbol represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents "everything", while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called "yin" (black) and "yang" (white), which cause everything to happen. They are not completely black or white, just as things in life are not completely black or white. They cannot exist without each other. While "yin" would be dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak; "yang" would be bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. The shape of the ying and yang sections of the symbol, actually gives you a sense of the continual movement of these two energies (yin to yang and yang to yin), causing everything to happen: just as things expand and contract, and temperature changes from hot to cold.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man believes that the concentration of the power equipment operator wanes with the operator activity leading to poor judgment. Furthermore, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man recognizes that power equipment manufacturers must seek to continue to improve the safety features of their products and deliver services to the increase safety awareness utilizing various approaches, so that the operator can get the safety message and strive to behave in a manner that minimizes accidents. Furthermore, the merchant who sells the power equipment should have a morale responsibility to educate their customer on how to operate the power equipment in a safe manner and to recognize when not to operate the equipment until the equipment is repaired. Indeed, yard safety requires a collaborative effort throughout the yard product life cycle.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man thanks the ancient Chinese philosophy and metaphysics scholars for their discovery of the Yin and Yang concept. It provides yet another consideration toward finding a cure for yard accidents.

Be the machine. Control the machine. Do not let the machine eat you.

Statistics

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. That works out to be 33,333 accidents per month; 1,095 accidents per day, 45 accidents per hour, and about 1 accident every minute. Furthermore, it is recognized that most yard accidents tend to take place during the Spring and Summer months. Thus, these numbers are even more pronounced during these peak yard work seasons of the year. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man cautions yard equipment operators to learn and prepare before operating power equipment and performing yard work. Think before you cut. It hurts.

Yard Safety Footwear Inventor

Richard Mudrinich, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ (http://www.rescuerick.com), invents the first-of-its-kind yard safety footwear and gear, including the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Yard Safety Footwear™. "I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Furthermore, I am the first person in the world to invent yard safety footwear specifically targeted for the landscaping experience. I conceived these ideas a few years ago, especially the yard safety footwear, after chopping-off part of my left foot with a walk-behind power push lawn mower while cutting the grass,” shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

“I was inspired to invent my yard safety footwear immediately after my yard accident. While in the hospital recovering from several surgeries as a result of my severe lawn mower accident, I made a life-commitment (divine inspiration) to yard safety awareness. In the hospital bed, I conceived the concept of the first-of-its-kind yard safety footwear and gear in order to prevent yard accidents from happening to other people and animals. Since I cut-off part of my left foot, I focused initially on designing and developing the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Yard Safety Footwear™. My focus then expanded to design Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Yard Safety Gear™ to protect other parts of the body. These personal protective equipment items are yard safety insurance products and promote preventative medicine as well. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ will donate to educational and charitable purposes,” shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ is a caped crusader and yard safety super hero working tirelessly to prevent lawn mower accidents and to promote yard safety. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ is a renaissance yard man, utilizing various art forms to communicate his safety message. “I want to educate and entertain the general public regarding the importance of yard safety. Lawn mower accidents happen in a split-second, often resulting in life-altering outcomes that sometimes include amputation. I learned this from first-hand experience when I amputated part of my left foot while cutting the grass,” shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™. “Wear a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man T-shirt™ (http://www.rescuerick.com/merchandiseshop.htm) to pass along the yard safety message so that people and animals do not get hurt. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ is here today so that yard accidents go away.”

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ is a yard safety awareness conduit for the betterment of mankind. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man™ wants to create awareness regarding the frequency and severity of lawn mower accidents and to promote preventive measures to rescue individuals and families from the dreaded experience associated with yard accidents. Each year, there are about 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospital emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yardwork accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. According to Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, "Think before you cut. It hurts. I encourage you to heed the outdoor power equipment safety precautions and to promote yard safety!"

DC National Mall

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has been making appearances at the National Mall in Washington DC. I am inspired by the many public servants who have come before me. As I visit each memorial, I gain more strength to take my yard safety awareness campaign to a higher-level. As Dr. King, I have stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial and have given my yard safety awareness speech several times in my head. My purpose is to prevent other people from experiencing a devastating accident while using outdoor power equipment. It is great to live in the same region as several prominent public servants. Tattoo

The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety campaign has entered into a whole new market. Indeed, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a renaissance yardman utilizing various art forms to communicate the yard safety message. The latest art form is body art - the tattoo. I visited with a few tattoo artists who are very excited to add the signature Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man logo to their tattoo inventory. It means a tremendous amount to me that an individual would put the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man logo on their body as a gesture to promote yard safety. Grass Cut and Rock On! Yard Safety Food

I present a few ideas to maintain high-energy levels while you grass cut.

Oatmeal: A serving of oats provides plenty of slow-release carbohydrates, which will give you more sustained energy than, say, processed sugar. Oatmeal has also been shown to lower cholesterol. Have it for breakfast or anytime, and add skim milk and dried fruit for extra nutritional punch. Instant oatmeal offers much the same benefits as rolled oats, but avoid presweetened brands, which have a high sugar content. If oats are good for a work horse, I suggest that oats are good for the grass cut person.

Sports Drinks: Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and chloride are lost in sweat. Sports drinks help put back electrolytes and stimulates thirst to drink more fluids and maintain hydration. Sports drinks give working muscles more energy to help fight fatigue and provide a mental edge - stay alert and stay safe.

Often times, yard accidents happen due to fatigue. I offer just a few suggestions to maintain high-energy levels to get the job done.

Apathy Returns

There is a sense of natural apathy associated with power equipment accidents. The sad reality is that I feel that I am trying an innovative approach to creating yard safety awareness. I do not see anything wrong with my approach, yet I share some recent feedback from two loyal supporters of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man with different opinions below:

"Your endeavor is seen as very, very, very weird. No real, normal, rich, powerful, successful people want anything to do with a poor peasant buffoon like you."

"You are a pioneer. A real pilgrim in the fight for yard saftey. You should be canonized someday."

I appreciate these words of encouragement, and I continue to forge ahead with my yard safety awareness crusade. Furthermore, I have learned that nobody really cares about yard accidents until they or someone they know gets hurt. The power equipment people think that the yard accidents are the result of human behavior and poor judgment. The yard accident victims (if alive) believe that there were not enough safety precautions. I recognize that there is significant room for improvement in communicating the yard safety message and improving yard safety education. I do not think that Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is weird. I think that my approach is necessary in order to create some awareness so that yard safety accidents can finally be prevented. Yard safety is not a joke, yet the serious approach has not solved the problem. Therefore, The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Show continues.

If asked specifically, most people express appreciation and gratitude for my yard safety awareness. Otherwise, nobody really cares even though about 500,000 individuals each year experience a yard accident. It is a very bizarre phenomenon. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Easter

Easter is the most important religious holiday of the Christian liturgical year, observed between late March and late April to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe occurred after his death by crucifixion. Christ is Risen!

I want to live in Heaven with Jesus when I die. In the meantime, I do not want to sin, and I want to promote yard safety awareness.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man BELIEVES! Thank you Jesus!

Atonement

The atonement is a doctrine found within both Christianity and Judaism. It describes how sin can be forgiven by God. In Judaism, Atonement is said to be the process of forgiving or pardoning a transgression. This was originally accomplished through rituals performed by a High Priest on the holiest day of the Jewish year: Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). In Christian theology the atonement refers to the forgiving or pardoning of sin through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ which made possible the reconciliation between God and creation.

Good Friday

Good Friday is a holy day celebrated by Christians on the Friday before Easter. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary.

Special prayer services are often held on this day with readings from the Gospel accounts of the events leading up to the crucifixion. Mainstream Christian churches view Christ's crucifixion as a voluntary and vicarious act, and one by which, along with resurrection on the third day, death itself was conquered.

Jesus was crucified so that I (we) would be forgiven for all of my (our) sins. He was resurrected so that I (we) can live again in Heaven. Good Friday is Great God Friday for Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. Jesus was and is God's plan. Good Friday is Love. Easter Day is Joy. Thank you Jesus.

Good Friday is God Friday. We are all part of God's plan. God knows all. God plans all. God rules all. God rules Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is part of His plan.

Muhammad Ali

I want share a note that I received from my friend Muhammad Ali:

Thank you for your kind words. It is especially warming to know that I have touched your life in some way. Here is one of my favorite sayings I think you might enjoy:

Where is man's wealth? His wealth is in his knowledge. If his wealth was in the bank, and not his knowledge, then he doesn't possess it because it's in the bank.

Keep smiling,

Muhammad Ali

Disabled Doggy

I developed a passion for disabled and challenged animals and persons at a young age. As a child, I had a dog named Babette who developed a condition called "floating kneecaps." In essence, her kneecaps would slip out of place, and she would drag her legs or walk only on her front paws. Furthermore, Babette had a very sweet personality. She loved everyone. Furthermore, I reached out to Babette recognizing some of her physical limitations and admiring her many positive characteristics. Unfortunately, Babette was killed by a car during a visit by one of my relatives who let Babette out to get some fresh-air. I did not learn about this until it was too late. It was a very sad day because Babette embodied a spirit of innocence and love for all animals and people. Babette was a wonderful little doggy.

After my lawn mower accident, I had a series of surgeries to care for the partial amputation of left foot. Often times, I thought about my little brave doggy Babette who made such a profound impact on everyone who met her. I gained some inspiration and strength from that little doggy.

In the spirit of Babette, I have developed a passion for disabled persons and disabled animals. Actually, I am now a disabled person. Citizen Kane had Rosebud. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man had Babette.

Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday of Holy Week (the Thursday before Easter). It was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples, sharing a meal with them which we call the Last Supper.

In those days it was usual for a servant to wash the guests feet on arrival. On this occasion there was no servant present and none of the disciples volunteered to do the menial task. Instead, Jesus got up and washed his disciples feet, giving them an object lesson in humility and service. In some churches priests carry out a ceremonial washing of the feet of twelve men on Maundy Thursday as a commemoration of Christ's act.

In Britain it is still customary for the sovereign to give 'Maundy Money' to a number of male and female pensioners - one man and one woman for each year of the sovereign's age. The money is contained in two purses: one red and one white. The white purse contains specially minted coins - one for each year of the sovereign's life. The red purse now also contains money, in lieu of gifts which used to be offered to the poor. Up to the time of James II the sovereign also washed the feet of selected poor men.The word "Maundy" comes from the Latin for 'command' (mandatum). It refers to the command given by Jesus at the Last Supper, that his disciples should love one another.

It would be great to have Jesus wash my feet. I might even be surprised to be blessed with a miracle - a new big toe. Thank you Jesus for the Atonement. Jesus suffered horribly and died on the cross. Thank you for the forgiveness and repair of my (our) sins.

China Revisited

I think that grass cutting and yard safety awareness could lead toward a common bond between America and China. I cut off my big toe during a lawnmower accident. The practice of reflexology, an ancient Chinese practice, may explain my theory. Reflexology, or zone therapy, is the practice of stimulating points on the feet (most common), hands, or ears, in the belief it will have a beneficial effect on some other parts of the body, or will improve general health. Apparently, the big toe is connected to the brain. I lost my left big toe. Does that mean that I lost half of my brain? Nonetheless, especially as most of the world embarks on grass cutting trillions of blades of grass, I share the remaining half of my brain and reminder everyone about the importance of learning more about yard safety awareness. I do not want anyone to get hurt. My life goal is zero yard accidents. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Passover

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to acknowledge that Passover 2007 began just after sundown on Monday, April 2 and will end just after sundown on Tuesday, April 10. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is not Jewish, yet he has experienced persecution and oppression as well. Nonetheless, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man forgives those individuals and groups who have tried to ruin him.

Passover is an important Jewish festival that commemorates the Exodus and freedom of the Hebrews from ancient Egypt and their safe flight across the Red Sea. Passover marks the "birth" of the Jewish nation, as the Jews were freed from being slaves of Pharaoh and allowed to become servants of God instead.

Passover officially begins with a Passover Seder, a ritual meal, which includes the telling of the Jewish exodus from slavery in Egypt to freedom towards the “promised land.” Jewish people eat Matzah, as did their ancestors, having had no time to let their bread rise. Jewish people dip greens into salt water to recall tears. The centrality of the Jewish Exodus cannot be overstated.

The Pesach seder has emerged in modern Jewish life as more than a lesson in Jewish history. Jews and non-Jews alike have found meaning in the Seder’s call to recognize historical and modern forms of oppression. The many, many haggadot available speak to the universality of the themes of Passover, including compassion for those in our world who are oppressed or enslaved by powers ranging from the political to the personal.

As deeply serious as the Passover story may be, Passover rituals also include the abundance and hope of springtime. From the ornate to the unique to the colorful, Matzoh covers and seder plates customize the seder table to reflect what is hopeful and inspiring to each of us. Modern arists weave the themes of abundance with the ritual traditions of Passover as a tribute to Jewish history and hope of a new season.

In the true spirit of Jewish optimism, a seder table almost always includes a cup of wine for the prophet Elijah. The cup of Elijah represents the commitment to each other, as Elijah represents anyone who is hungry and in need of food. Elijah’s cup also represents faith in the future, a true redemption of humankind and a time of everlasting peace. Blessings to all for a joyous, peaceful and meaningful holiday!

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to free individuals and families from experiencing a tragic yard accident.
