Pallbearer

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man was honored to be a pallbearer at the recent funeral of my Aunt Dorothy. A pallbearer is one of several funeral participants (usually six) who helps carry the casket of a deceased person from a religious or memorial service or viewing either directly to a cemetery or mausoleum, or to and from the hearse which does so.

Ironically, the hearse carrying my Aunt Dorothy passed-by a lawn service worker who was grass cutting a yard near the funeral home. Then, I thought of fatal yard accidents involving yard equipment. I visualized the many tragic landscaping accidents. I thought of the thousands of fatal yard accident victims and the loss of their families and friends - at one time traveling in their own funeral processions.

Indeed, safety and accident prevention is one of the most important acts and thoughts of mankind. Safety must be a state of mind. Thinking in terms of safety is a better way to work, to play, to live, etc. Safety skills help form desirable habits. Also, safety creates an efficiency beyond the state of mind resulting in an individual doing a better job and becoming a better person. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man recognizes that yard accidents are expensive in many ways. Safety and accident prevention strives to eliminate loss.

Furthermore, the work of safety engineering must be supplemented with safety psychology through safety-minded education. Safety work demands zealous, and persistent attention - not monotonous. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has developed an innovative renaissance yard man campaign utilizing various art forms and methods of communicating the yard safety awareness message. Also, an anxious, fearful, and worried yard worker is likely to become inefficient, dissatisfied, and ripe for an accident. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man enables good morale through his concern and support of the yard worker. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man exudes yard safety through his constructive suggestions and positive directions, leading to a heightened sense of attention to detail and achieving the positive feeling of completing a job well-done in a safe manner.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man really feels for the loss of fatal yard accident victims and their families and friends. At the cemetery while carrying my Aunt Dorothy, I heard a lawn mower in the distance. For a moment, I felt like a pallbearer for the many fatal yard accident victims. Once again, Aunt Dorothy was a supporter of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man and his zany antics and creative yard safety innovations.

Also, this Sunday evening on "60 Minutes", I watched a great interview with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. It prompted me to search for more information on safety and accident prevention. I want to share a great quotation from the late Harold Hitz Burton, Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court:

"As a prevention of disease is better than its cure, and prevention of war better than victory, so prevention of accidents is better than to attempt compensation for them ... Teaching the world to be careful is a constructive service worthy of God's great of life to Man."

Aunt Dorothy

My Aunt Dorothy Brodzinsky died today. I am very very sad. Aunt Dorothy was the epitome of a good and nice person. She was gracious and supportive of everybody - a walking definition of unconditional love. She was an everyday hero - Saint Dorothy.

Raised on an Ohio farm, Aunt Dorothy was supportive of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. She was very aware of the dangers of farm and yard equipment. She accepted her Nephew Rick's passion for yard safety awareness while others were quick to criticize and suffocate an innovative approach to promote yard safety and find a cure for yard accidents. I have had many fun family times with Aunt Dorothy at family gatherings - great Midwest ethics and values. I enjoyed joking around with Aunt Dorothy. Often times, I would make reference to my little black dog named Pepper Mud who died in 1992. Ironically, many people did not like Pepper Mud. Aunt Dorothy could always relate to the symbolism of Pepper in her outreach to the underdogs in society. Also, I played my leg in hambone fashion to ignite some laughter and to catalyze some great kitchen table family discussions. My little dog Pepper always remembered me and always liked me. Furthermore, Aunt Dorothy always remembered me and always loved me.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will be visiting with family in Ohio tomorrow at the funeral home. The calling hours are Friday evening. The funeral is Saturday morning. I am sad for my Uncle Henry (husband) and my Cousin Danny (son) and his family. Also, I anticipate that it will be a difficult day for many people, including my mom (sister), Aunt Betty (sister), Uncle John (brother), my brothers (families) and cousins, etc. In short, Aunt Dorothy nows lives with Jesus in Heaven. In the meantime, we will all remember her and pay our respects to another child of God who made several positive contributions to family and community.

When I die, I want to be dressed in my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety uniform, as a remembrance of my passion for yard safety and a tribute to the thousands of individuals who died as a result of a yard equipment accident. In addition, I want to make sure that Aunt Dorothy as well as enemies, families, and friends recognize me in Heaven. Aunt Dorothy lived with unconditional love.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is very sad today. Rest In Peace Aunt Dorothy! Eternity in Heaven is Forever!

Happy Birthday

Today is the 4th birthday celebration of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. On September 21, 2003, I had a serious lawn mower accident, resulting in the partial amputation of my left foot. My life changed on that day. I received a divine message to promote yard safety awareness.

I was grass cutting, and I had only a few feet of grass to cut - possibly for the entire year. I was using a push mower. I slipped and my left foot went under the mower and came in contact with the blade. My left foot was sliced and mulched resulting in a severe amputation and wound. I was sent by life-flight helicopter from my local hospital in the Sharon Regional Health System to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where I had a series of extensive surgical operations. I want to thank all of the medical professionals for their care and talents. Nonetheless, I have had a long road toward recovery.

Consequently, I want to create awareness regarding the frequency and severity of lawn mower accidents. I am the only yard safety advocate acting as an individual in the world. Indeed, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Furthermore, I am compelled to present some lawn mower safety measures with hopes to significantly minimize the occurrences and magnitudes of these costly, life-altering, mutilating, and painful events. I want to find a cure for yard accidents, in particular grass cut accidents. I believe that the solution partially rests in the analysis of human behavior via cognitive psychology, etc. Nonetheless, we all need to improve.

Each year, there are over 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yardwork accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. In addition, the estimated medical, legal, insurance and disability costs and other expenses of these injuries are over a billion dollars each year. I want to present preventive measures to rescue (hence, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) - a real-life caped crusader for yard safety) individuals and families from going through the dreaded experience associated with lawn mower accidents. Eventually, I want to cover the entire spectrum of outdoor power equipment and yard safety.

Furthermore, I want to give special thanks to my mother, family, and friends for their concern and support throughout my left foot ordeal. I give special appreciation and gratitude for my mom, Helen Mudrinich, for her care, grace, patience, and support regarding the many tribulations associated with my lawn mower accident. At the time, my mom had advanced uterine cancer, yet she still felt the need to care for her son. It was an amazing life experience. Indeed, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to provide similar outreach to other individuals impacted by a yard accident.

Since the birthdate of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man on September 21, 2003, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has achieved several accomplishments: yard safety awareness initiatives, products, programs, services, etc. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has reached millions of individuals all over the world. Furthermore, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has made a positive impact on several individuals and industries related to yard safety - including some life-changing actions and events. I am very committed to yard safety!

Toy Safety Senate Hearing

On Wednesday, September 12, 2007, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man watched the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government hearing on toy safety with keen interest. The purpose of the hearing was to address recent recalls of toys manufactured in China using lead paint.

The Senate panel included: Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kansas), Senator Richard Durbin (D-Illinois), and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota). Testimony to Congress by both federal regulators and toy manufacturers detailed loose Chinese standards and spotty U.S. enforcement that have contributed to a spate of recalls of Chinese-made toys. Appearing before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee included: Nancy Nord – Acting Chairman, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; Thomas Moore – Commissioner, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; Carter Keithley – President, Toy Industry Association; Gerald Storch – CEO, Toys “R” US; Robert Eckert – CEO, Mattel; Joe Bhatia – President, American National Standards Institute; and Sally Greenberg – Senior Product Safety Counsel, Consumers Union.

I was extremely interested in this Senate hearing because people (including children) have died from exposure and ingestion of toys that were manufactured in China with lead paint. Also, I learned that excessive shift of manufacturing goods to China has resulted in several concerns with regards to certification, compliance, regulations, standards, testing, etc. Furthermore, I learned that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission does not have enough people, resources and systems to adequately fulfill the mission and responsibilities of the CPSC. The CPSC is overwhelmed and cannot handle the increased workload. The CPSC does not have the funds to work an major issues, such as drowning accidents. Moreover, I recognized that there was candid open discussion of the crisis situation. It was recognized that changes are needed with regards to utilizing certified suppliers, improving and enforcing regulations and standards, increasing the frequency of mandatory testing throughout the supply chain, pursuing new legislation, lifting caps on fines, increasing transparency at the CPSC, improving the auditing of contractors and subcontractors, ensuring prompt recall of products (with newfound economic challenges for smaller retailers), etc.

Furthermore, I was impressed with the conduct and approach of the Senators on the panel. Senator Klobuchar introduced legislation that would treat any lead in children's products as a banned hazardous substance. Senator Brownback expressed concerns with regards to China trade practices and product safety standards. Senator Durbin summarized the hearing with three key points: (1) China failed by manufacturing toys using lead paint, (2) the CPSC failed dues to lack of resources and staffing, and (3) Congress failed to deliver government services.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man learned much from the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on toy safety. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has designed a bobble head doll to promote yard safety awareness. Hence, I am very concerned with the toy safety of a yard safety promotional item. Also, I recognize that there is room for improvement with regards to yard safety. In addition, I learned that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission might not have enough resources to focus on yard safety related issues, product testing, etc.

Rescue Rick Remembers 9/11

From the tolling of bells near Shanksville, Pa., to a moment of silence on the White House lawn and a procession of families to the depths of Ground Zero, the nation paused Tuesday to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed six years ago when suicidal terrorists struck America.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has visited each 9/11 site a few times. Today, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has reflected several times about these events that took on September 11, 2001 as well as the resultant impact throughout America and throughout the entire world.

I was living in New York City on 9/11/01. I worked on Wall Street for over a decade, and I worked with some of the World Trade Center victims. Also, I had the opportunity to work for a firms located in the World Trade Center. Ironically, I had a meeting scheduled for 10:30 AM in 2 World Trade Center (south tower) on 9/11/01. I never saw some of the clients ever again. I often think about the family and friends of those who died on 9/11.

Furthermore, I am astonished by the bravery and skills of the many rescue workers who illustrated the epitome of love for fellow man and woman, as well as animals - WORLD-CLASS TALENT, DEDICATION, AND LOVE. Today, I am really sad for the rescue workers and volunteers who have developed health issues related to their efforts to help people. I pray that God will bless these individuals with improved health and great life offerings. Indeed, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man understands the expression, "No good deed goes unpunished."

After 9/11, terrorist has become a household word and mission. Also, terrorist has a few different definitions to me. Indeed, terrorism means Al Qaeda that hate a democratically elected government. They hate our freedoms -- our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, our freedom to vote and assemble and disagree with each other. Furthermore, terrorism has existed in America before 9/11. There are Americans who strive to get ahead in life by bullying other people. They terrorize individuals often diminishing the freedoms of their victims and destroying their lives. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man advocates for bullying awareness and prevention. There are many similiarities between Al Qaeda and bullies. They both want control and possessions.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man supports the American troops as well as the many soldiers and civilians who have made great sacrifices to rectify this world mess. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man reminds the world of a great song written and performed by John Lennon "Give Peace a Chance." In the meantime, the U.S. Armed Forces must communicate love through force and education until the beautiful message of John Lennon's song encompasses the globe.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man believes that everyone should respect one another. Bullying results in human abuse. Also, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man appreciates President Bush. George W. Bush is the President of the United States of America. He is the President of my homeland.

Tribute to Pavarotti

As a tribute to legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Opera wants to share the aria of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Opera.

Legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti died Thursday at his home in Italy aged 71, plunging the opera world into mourning for a singer whose crossover appeal turned him into a global superstar.

Hailed by many as the greatest tenor of his generation, Pavarotti passed away during the night at his villa near the northern city of Modena after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has written a very short opera to tell his story and express the pain and emotions associated with his lawn mower accident. The opera is a combination of an opera buffa (comedy) and verismo (real story). In an operatic baritone voice, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) belts out the aria "I Cut Off My Big Toe and Some." Buhl Day on Labor Day

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man celebrates Labor Day! Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September. The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the "working man". It is still celebrated mainly as a day of rest and marks the symbolic end of summer for many. Labor Day became a federal holiday by Act of Congress in 1894.

For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is obsessive and compulsive about protecting and saving individuals, families, and institutions from experiencing a yard accident. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is the inventor of yard (garden grass lawn landscaping mowing turf) safety footwear. In addition, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a renaissance yard man who utilizes various art forms to communicate his yard safety awareness message.

Today, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will celebrate Labor Day with family and friends. I will enjoy a family picnic, remembering the many union workers (including my dad who worked as a crane operator for 43 years at Sharon Steel Corporation as well as other relatives and friends). My dad (Robert N. Mudrinich) died in 1995. He was an innovative genius and inventor. In addition, he was a great humanitarian helping anyone who needed assistance. His community contributions included: family resources, legal research, nuts-and-bolts projects, psychological assistance, social work, etc. to help those individuals both more and less fortunate than himself. Likewise, my mom has worked in child care for over three decades. She has raised children, cherished grandchildren, embraced children of deceased parents, acted as the adopted grandmother for some children, comforted the mentally challenged, cared for the community, etc. She has cancer, and she still cares for others (often times before herself). In the spirit of my dad and mom, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man strives to innovate yard safety to an unprecedented level with the intention to circle the globe.

Frank Buhl founded the Sharon Steel Corporation and was a partner in United State Steel Corporation. It was this industry that became one of the Shenango Valley’s main sources of income and financial stability for the next hundred years. The Buhls were beloved citizens and philanthropists of the Shenango Valley. Frank’s success in the steel industry provided them with the finances to contribute generously to the Sharon community for many generations to come. Some of their many contributions were the area’s first hospital, the Oakwood Cemetery, the F.H. Buhl Club, the Buhl-Henderson Library, the Julia F. Buhl Girls Club, St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Sharon Country Club. The F. H. Buhl Farm was probably their most generous gift to the local residents. Mr. Buhl purchased three hundred acres of land and then dedicated five years developing it, building roads and planting over 75,000 trees. He built an eleven-acre lake (Lake Julia) with a Casino for public recreation as well as an eighteen-hole golf course. In addition, by the terms of his will, he made necessary arrangements to assure the perpetual maintenance of his projects, thus, Sharon has the only free golf course in America.

Later today, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will make an appearance at Buhl Day located at Buhl Farm in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. If there ever was a family day, well then it must be Buhl Day. Buhl Day dates back to 1915 when industrialist Frank Buhl and his wife, Julia, started the celebration to honor the working men and women in the Shenango Valley. It continued until World War II and then resumed again in 1980. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man looks forward to a nice day of community, family, and fun at Buhl Day.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants everyone to have a Happy Labor Day! Nonetheless, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is always on duty to promote yard safety awareness and rescue people from yard accidents.

Canfield Fair

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man will make an appearance at the 160th celebration of the Canfield Fair today. Every year in late August, the Canfield Fair ("Ohio's Largest Fair") takes place at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Canfield is a city located in Mahoning County, Ohio, about ten miles southwest of Youngstown. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 7,374. In 2005 Canfield was rated the 82nd best place to live in the U.S. by Money magazine. The Canfield Fair is a great experience!
