Flying Lawnmower

I went to the National Mall yesterday to push my toy lawnmower around to promote yard safety awareness. The cherry trees bloom annually around the Tidal Basin between the National Mall and the Jefferson Memorial. It was spectacular.

I gained momentum as I pushed my toy lawnmower around the tidal basin. Then, all of a sudden, I took flight. I was flying around the National Mall with a birds-eye view. I flew over to the Washington Monument and perched on top to take a rest. I realized that I might be perceived as an Unidentified Flying Object, so I swooped down and buzzed the cherry trees on my way to visit the Jefferson Memorial. I morphed into a cartoon yard safety superhero so that I would not disturb Homeland Security. My flesh became ink. I became a three-dimensional caricature in the real space and time of the National Capital. I have finally arrived as a yard safety superhero. In patriotic fashion, I flew around the entire National Mall gaining inspiration for my yard safety awarenes campaign from some of the greatest Americans that ever lived. I was tempted to fly over to the White House, but I was afraid that I might scare Barney Bush and Miss Beazley Bush, the White House Scottish Terriers, as well as Ernie Bush and India "Willie" Bush, the White House cats. Nonetheless, I would like to push my toy lawnmower on the White House lawn someday.

Indeed, I have had a magical toy lawnmower all along, and I did not know it. When I turn my mower just right, the blade becomes a propeller, and I can fly. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man can fly high and low. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man can fly here and there. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man can now fly with his fun and fantastic toy lawnmower. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is here today so that yard accidents go away.

Illegal Immigrant Landscapers

I enjoyed reading the World Magazine BLOG (Saturday, March 25th) contribution by Dr. Marvin Olasky (spiritual advisor to President Bush) entitled "Tightening Immigration Law."

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday (March 22th) to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants. Senator Clinton made her remarks as the Senate prepares to take up the immigration law debate next week. She created some controversy recently with her biblical reference to the Good Samaritan and Jesus to support her agrument.

"It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the Scriptures," Clinton said, "because this bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself."

Incidentally, Senator Clinton is United Methodist. President Bush is United Methodist. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is United Methodist.

I am a yard safety awareness advocate. I preach yard safety. Moreover, I do not want any illegal immigrant landscapers to get hurt. Furthermore, there exists smuggling rings related to illegal immigration. I do not support smuggling rings - modern-day slavery. I believe that the new immigration law clause would encourage human rights and prevent potential abuse often associated with the smuggling ring phenomenon. Also, I believe that immigrants want and should follow the legal process toward becoming a legal visitor, resident, and eventual U.S. citizen.

I look forward to learning more about this issue. I want to feel safe in my home country and beyond. Actually, I like the proposed legislation. I believe that immigrants should come to America (the land of opportunity) the old-fashioned way - earn it legally. By the way, I wish that my life was better as well, and I am a United States citizen. Nonetheless, I will leave the next step to the professional politicians. Since both President Bush and Senator Clinton (as well as Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man) have faith in Jesus, what would Jesus do?

Sunday

The fewest lawn mower accidents occur on Sunday. On the other hand, Saturday and Wednesday are the peak days for accidents. Keep in mind that accidents can and do occur on any day of the week, usually when they are least expected.

Peak In June

Most lawn mower accidents occur between April and October, with June being the peak accident month.

Big Numbers

Employers reported 6.2 million non-fatal injuries and illnesses among mowers during 1996, and 5.8 million of those cases resulted in either lost work time, medical treatment or a job transfer, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

John Lennon

I would like to attend the upcoming pay-per-view John Lennon seance. I think that John Lennon would support yard safety awareness. I can only IMAGINE what John Lennon might have said about yard safety. He might have even written a song.

IMAGINE that I was 16 years-old when John Lennon was shot. I was driving the family car home from working as a chicken cook and dishwasher at KFC. The driveshaft on the family car fell-off at the same time that the radio announcer presented a newsbreaking report that John Lennon was killed. Ironically, John Lennon drove home several amazing thoughts - a phenomenal creative genius. IMAGINE if I could talk with Yoko Ono about the life of John Lennon.

IMAGINE if I could meet with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and write a yard safety awareness song, featuring Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. Furthermore, IMAGINE that we performed the Rescue Rick Yard Safety song at Shea Stadium - decades after one of the biggest rock concerts in history. IMAGINE if George Harrison could deliver a spiritual insight regarding the gardens in Heaven. IMAGINE if Linda McCartney could take some photographs of Heaven and send them to Earth.

IMAGINE if I could meet with Heather Mills McCartney (fellow amputee) and talk with her about her approach and efforts associated with Adopt-A-Minefield.

IMAGINE if there were no more yard accidents - ZERO ACCIDENTS.

Second YSA Day

The second Yard Safety Awareness Day (tm) will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2006. It corresponds to the First Day of Summer. Please take the time on June 21st to recognize the importance of yard safety awareness. I encourage communities all over the world to each build a Yard Safetyland (tm) to educate, entertain, and demonstrate yard safety tips. Yard Safety Awareness Day (tm) is a day to reflect on the importance of yard safety and to acknowledge that a life can change in a split-second after a yard accident. I encourage individuals who had a yard accident to share their stories. Also, I encourage yard safety specialists to share best practices with regards to yard safety. The goal is zero accidents. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm) Yard Safety Awareness Day is Alive!

Infant Creeper

I have gotten to know a young woman who is approaching the birth and delivery of her first child - it's a boy. I have enjoyed living vicariously through her regarding the pregnancy process. It is very fascinating. Recently, she had a baby shower. I was not invited. I realize that most baby showers tend to be women-only. Nonetheless, I do not want her baby to ever have a yard accident, especially involving outdoor power equipment. I want to encourage parents to remember to always protect their children while they are playing and working in the yard. Therefore, I presented her with a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Infant Creeper (tm) to remind her and her husband of the importance of yard safety awareness. Also, I encourage other parents and families to learn more about yard safety awareness so that they and their children can avoid these often times severe accidents. In addition, you may even create awareness during your travels and help someone else avoid a yard accident. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Dana Reeve Tribute

I am really saddened by the death of Dana Reeve. She was absolutely phenomenal in her devotion to her family, especially during times of adversity. As a disabled person (amputee), I am grateful for her dedicated efforts as a visible trailblazer driving to find a cure for paralysis. She was so wonderful. Also, I really feel for Will Reeve. Like his parents, he is another great person.

I have created Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man as the voice of my yard safety awareness advocacy. As Rescue Rick, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the symbolism and leadership of Superman and all of the actors who played Superman, including Christopher Reeve. Like many, Dana and Christopher Reeve made an impact on me. They were the beautiful people who were dealt a blow of intense adversity. They demonstrated to the world what made them special people beyond their outward beauty and charm. They beamed with inward beauty and wanted to make a difference and find a cure for paralysis. They were both superhereos in real life.

Incidentally, I purchased the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man red cape at costume shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I was told by the owner of the shop that the red cape was made specifically for a production of "Superman" performed at a venue in the Pittsburgh Cultural District. Often times while putting on my red cape as Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, I think of Superman and the warmth and determination of both Dana and Christopher Reeve. Also, I think of Jesus and what he did for all of us.

I am sometimes perceived as an idiot who had a lawn mower accident who now wants to play a yard safety super hero. It goes far beyond this impression. I want to find a cure for yard accidents. I do not want people and animals to get hurt. I am grateful for Dana and Christopher Reeve for providing a great example with their grace, innovation, and outreach.

Thank you Dana and Christopher Reeve. Dana and Christopher together again in Heaven.

When I die, I want to be buried in my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man costume. That is my only wish.

Kirby Puckett Tribute

I am saddened by the death of Kirby Puckett. I am a baseball fan. I never met him. Nonetheless, I do not critize him for any off-field behavior; I forgive. However, I really liked what I saw on the baseball field. He covered much turf in centerfield and a clutch hitter. It is now too late for me to ask Kirby Puckett to participate in my self-proclaimed DREAM of Yard Safety Awareness Day at Major League Ballparks across America. Kirby Puckett could have probably gotten the attention of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to make it happen. Kirby Puckett has demonstrated that life is precious and can end unexpectedly at a relatively young age. Furthermore, I want to promote yard safety awareness so that baseball fans do not die unexpectedly while grass cutting. I am sorry that Kirby Puckett died. Nonetheless, he rekindled my spirit to share my passion for yard safety awareness so that baseball fans and beyond do not get hurt or die while trimming their field of dreams. DIAMONDS IN HEAVEN!

Billy Graham

"I believe that one of the next great moves of God is going to be through believers in the workplace." Billy Graham

I have tremendous respect and admiration for Billy Graham. He is a great teacher. Likewise, I recognize that there is room for improvement in the workplace. I wish everyone would enjoy their job and be productive. Furthermore, I want to enhance yard safety awareness so that professional landscapers and lawn service employees do not get hurt. Teach. Encourage. Support. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

The Chant

The aim of Buddhist practice is to end the cycle of rebirth called samsara, by awakening the practitioner to the realization of true reality, the achievement of liberation (nirvana). To achieve this, one should purify and train the mind and act according to the laws of karma, of cause and effect: perform positive actions, and positive results will follow. Accordingly, negative deeds have negative consequences. A Buddhist chant is a form of musical verse or incantation. In Buddhism, chanting is the traditional means of preparing the mind for meditation.

Here is the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Chant:

Yard yard yard yard yard yard yard yard yard safety.
Grass grass grass grass grass grass grass grass grass safety.
Blade blade blade blade blade blade blade blade blade safety.
Tool tool tool tool tool tool tool tool tool safety.
People people people people people people people people safety.
Animal animal animal animal animal animal animal animal safety.
Aware aware aware aware aware aware aware aware aware safety.
Rescue Rick Rescue Rick Rescue Rick.
Safe safe safe safe safe safe safe safe safe.
Safe safe safe safe safe safe safe safe safe.

Red Dead Fleece

Mary had a little lamb,
little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow,
until the yard accident.

Keep the lamb alive and safe. Please keep other people out of the work area in the yard, especially while using outdoor power equipment. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)
