Great Falls, Virginia -- October 23, 2006 -- Richard Mudrinich, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, will be dressing-up as himself again this Halloween. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a caped-crusader working tirelessly to promote yard safety awareness and to rescue individuals from getting hurt. He will be going trick-or-treat from house-to-house, to share his Halloween treats - his yard safety awareness message.
"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em." - Act ii, Sc. 5, Twelfth Night, William ShakespearePeter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider. Bruce Wayne was transformed by the tragic death of his parents. The Fantastic Four were bombarded with Cosmic Rays. For Richard Mudrinich, of Great Falls, Virginia, greatness came in the form of a lawn mower accident.
"As a show of support for yard safety awareness and a tribute to all those people who have gotten hurt, including severe amputations, I encourage both children and adults to dress-up as yard safety super heroes - a Halloween costume with a social purpose. In essence, I want to blast my yard safety message to create awareness so that people do not get hurt. Halloween is a great way for everyone to play yard safety super hero for a day. Also, my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Bobble Head Doll provides a year-round reminder of yard safety awareness," shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.
"In the fall, individuals often use their lawn mowers to mulch fallen leaves. The slippery leaves contribute to the increased risk of a lawn mower accident," cautions Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. "Watch out for sticks and objects hidden by the leaves as well as slippery slopes. Halloween affords yet another fun time to share the preventive yard safety message in another unique way."
Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a renaissance yardman, utilizing various art forms to communicate his safety message. "I want to educate and entertain the general public regarding the importance of yard safety. Lawn mower accidents happen in a split-second, often resulting in life-altering outcomes that sometimes include amputation. I learned this from first-hand experience when I amputated part of my left foot while cutting the grass," shares Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.
Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to create awareness regarding the frequency and severity of lawn mower accidents and to promote preventive measures to rescue individuals and families from the dreaded experience associated with yard accidents. Each year, there are about 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospital emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yard accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. According to Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, "Think before you cut. It hurts. I encourage you to heed the outdoor power equipment safety precautions and to promote home and family safety."
