Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is an American holiday dedicated to the memory of all war dead. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) is grateful for all of the men and women who have served in the U. S. military to protect and defend their country and to promote freedom, so that I can dress as a yard safety super hero and promote yard safety awareness. Often times, American citizens extend the concept of honoring war dead to all dead. I want to take a moment of silence to remember family members, friends, and fellow Americans who have passed away. (SILENCE)

Also, I must remember the individuals who have died while grass cutting - killed by outdoor power equipment. (SILENCE) The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that there have been over 3,000 fatalities during the past 30 years. In recent years, there are still about 150 lawn mower fatalities each year. This is one reason that the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) campaign exists. It is unfortunate that war sometimes results in loss of life while fighting for your country as a true patriot. Again, I want to thank all of the American soldiers who have served and are currently serving their country. Furthermore, it is really unfortunate to die from a fatal outdoor power equipment accident. Wake-up America! Indeed, you can die from cutting grass. Think before you cut. It can kill you. BE SAFE! (tm) I hope that you enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend because the WAR DEAD and the LAWN MOWER DEAD WILL NOT. Again, I am very grateful for the WAR DEAD, and I recognize the LAWN MOWER DEAD. THANK YOU! (SILENCE)

21 Lawn Mower Salute! (SILENCE)

Thank you for serving your country. Thank you for the memories! (CELEBRATE LIFE)

Twin Blades

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has invited the Twin Blades to the Yard Safety Crusaders Family. The Twin Blades present the relationship between machine and nature. Grass Blade is a blade of grass. Metal Blade is a lawn mower blade. They often reflect on their roles and responsibilities. Furthermore, Grass Blade and Metal Blade often discuss yard safety awareness issues involving humans and animals, including brainstorming to find a cure for yard accidents. Also, they "cut" each other down in a humorous fashion.

Think before you cut. It hurts!

Commencement

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man graduated from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. On Sunday, May 20th, Dr. Bill Cosby was the keynote speaker at the Carnegie Mellon University Commencement ceremony. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a proud Carnegie Mellon alum who typifies the essence of the cross-collaborative innovation that Carnegie Mellon fosters. Think different. I share a recent email that I sent to Carnegie Mellon President Jared Cohon, expressing my excitement that Bill Cosby was announced to share his message as an educator and entertainer to the Carnegie Mellon Class of 2007. Likewise, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is an educator and entertainer. Enjoy the show!

President Cohon:

It is exciting that Dr. Bill Cosby will deliver the keynote address at the Carnegie Mellon commencement. I have always admired Bill Cosby, including his style and approach toward entertainment and education. Likewise, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (Tepper 1993) embodies the cross-campus spirit that is embraced by the innovative Carnegie Mellon community and beyond. As a result, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Indeed, I want to educate and entertain - just like Bill Cosby. He might be more famous, wealthy, talented, and (maybe) funnier than me. Nonetheless, we both share a BIG heart to educate and entertain people. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man strives to create yard safety awareness. Like Bill Cosby, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to share and teach some lessons of life, both on campus and in the classroom of life - where often times everyday is an experiment. Congratulations to the Carnegie Mellon Class of 2007!

Thank you for your extraordinary contributions to Carnegie Mellon! I am extremely grateful for your outreach to so many people in the Carnegie Mellon community and beyond. I think it is befitting that Bill Cosby should invite both of us to make a guest appearance on his next television show.

Carnegie Mellon is a great university. I am a proud Carnegie Mellon alum and member of the Carnegie Mellon family. Best wishes!

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man welcomes the opportunity to work with Bill Cosby! Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely,

Vietnam

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man made another trip to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. recently.

The Vietnam Memorial is a very special and emotional place. I was a kid during the Vietnam War. Over the years, I have met many tremendous people who served in Vietnam. I will never really understand the experiences of these men and women. However, I acknowledged the emotions of a few Vietnam Veterans visiting the WALL to pay tribute to a fallen or missing buddy. Likewise, I saw family members paying respects to their loved ones.

Also, I reflected on meeting Master Sergeant Ray Bows, the author of several works on the Vietnam War. In context, I spoke with Mr. Bows about my yard safety awareness campaign. He was a true gentleman. Also, he was signing books. I do not have much money as a result of my accident. Nonetheless, I was compelled to buy his book out of respect to all those who served in the Vietnam War. Ironically, Mr. Bows wrote on the inside cover of my book, "To Rescue Rick, Thanks for all the good work you do. This is the first time I've met a super hero in person! Best wishes. Ray Bows" Mr. Bows comments oozed modesty. He met thousands of super heroes - those who served America during the Vietnam War, including those individuals who gave their lives for their country and freedom.

In my own way, I want to acknowledge the millions of individuals who have been mutilated in their own yard using outdoor power equipment. It was not the jungles of Vietnam. It was grassy yards on American soil. Furthermore, millions of people all over the world have been mutilated by outdoor power equipment. I recognize that these situations did not involve a stressful war situation. These events took place while cutting grass. Therefore, I must cry out for people to think before they touch a piece of outdoor power equipment. It is not a weapon. It is a yard machine. Please read the owner's manual. Think and live yard safety.

NO MORE YARD EQUIPMENT MUTILATIONS, ACCIDENTS, AND FATALITIES!

Who Cares

There is a sense of natural apathy associated with power equipment accidents. The sad reality is that I feel that I am trying an innovative approach to creating yard safety awareness. I do not see anything wrong with my approach, yet I share some recent feedback from two loyal supporters of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man with different opinions below:

"Your endeavor is seen as very, very, very weird. No real, normal, rich, powerful, successful people want anything to do with a poor peasant buffoon like you."

"You are a pioneer. A real pilgrim in the fight for yard safety. You should be canonized someday."

"You are a true innovator. Your ship will come in the near future. Believe!"

I appreciate these words of encouragement, and I continue to forge ahead with my yard safety awareness crusade. Furthermore, I have learned that nobody really cares about yard accidents until they or someone they know gets hurt. The power equipment people think that the yard accidents are the result of human behavior and poor judgment. The yard accident victims (if alive) believe that there were not enough safety precautions. I recognize that there is significant room for improvement in communicating the yard safety message and improving yard safety education. I do not think that Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is weird. I think that my approach is necessary in order to create some awareness so that yard safety accidents can finally be prevented. Yard safety is not a joke, yet the serious approach has not solved the problem. Therefore, The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Show continues.

If asked specifically, most people express appreciation and gratitude for my yard safety awareness. Otherwise, nobody really cares even though about 500,000 individuals each year experience a yard accident. It is a very bizarre phenomenon. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Honk if you care about yard safety! Buy a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man T-Shirt if you really care! It would be nice if outdoor power equipment manufacturers, schools, hospitals, insurance companies, community centers, media organizations, etc. would buy at least one Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man poster or T-shirt as a show of good faith! Make a difference!

Maternity T-Shirt

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man features a "Product of the Moment." Mother's Day appreciation and remembrance is the air. Also, Mothers-To-Be are preparing to become mothers. Children are involved in about 25% of all yard accidents. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man offers some advice to mothers with regards to children and yard safety awareness:

YARD SAFETY TIPS

Children should not operate a lawnmower until they are 16 years old. Also, children should demonstrate a maturity-level consistent with operating the equipment in a responsible manner.

Even if you believe your child is old enough to mow, spend time showing him or her how the mower works and watch to be sure that he or she can do the job safely.

Children should not ride as a passenger on ride-on mowers. The tendency to take kids for a ride on the mower is a careless old habit. Riding mowers provide many safety features for the operator, but they are not built for passengers.

Children on riding mowers have the potential to fall and be run over by the mower, resulting in serious injury and/or amputation of the extremities. Riding mowers are one-person machines; never tow children in carts or trailers while mowing.

Children and pets should not be in the yard while the lawn is being mowed. Again, children should not be anywhere near the operation of lawnmowers or anywhere near the mowing area.

MATERNITY T-SHIRT

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has created the Yard Safety Awareness Maternity T-Shirt to spread the yard safety message. The Yard Safety Awareness Maternity T-Shirt is available in both white and black.Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants your baby to be yard safe! It is time for Mothers-To-Be, Mothers, Grandmothers, Great-Grandmothers, Great-Great-Grandmothers, Great-Great-Great-Grandmothers, Eternal-Grandmothers, Adopted-Mothers, Adopted-Grandmothers, Stepmothers, Step-Grandmothers, Surrogate-Mothers, Mother Nature, etc. to take action! Living With Cancer

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man knows people living with cancer, in particular his mom who has uterine cancer.

More than 10 million Americans are living with cancer. As early detection has become more prevalent and as treatments have become more effective, many cancer survivors are finding that they can treat their cancer as a chronic disease.

On Sunday, May 6 at 8:00 PM, Discovery Channel presented a special three-hour broadcast of Ted Koppel on Discovery dedicated to the discussion of living with cancer. In a live town hall meeting at Discovery Communications headquarters, Ted Koppel was joined by Elizabeth Edwards, wife of presidential candidate John Edwards; Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France champion; and Leroy Sievers, Koppel's longtime executive producer and friend — each of whom discussed their experience with coping with a cancer diagnosis.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man really appreciates this "Living With Cancer" special program. Also, this show will be aired again on Monday, May 7th at 8:00 PM. Also, the "Living With Cancer" show made reference to the website link http://www.discovery.com/cancer for more information and direction. Please check your television listings for details.

I am trying to help my mom get some cancer care that will result in another cancer success story. Actually, my mom has been a cancer survivor for at least 18-months now. If anyone has any feedback with regards to uterine cancer that has spread to the lungs, please let Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man know.Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has made a significant contribution to spread the yard safety awareness message. Likewise, I appreciate any insights and direction with regards to helping to rescue my mom from uterine cancer.

As Ted Koppel indicated in on the television program on Sunday evening, it is certain that each life will someday terminate someday. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is not afraid to die. I just do not like to see other people die. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Cinco de Mayo

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man celebrates Cinco de Mayo. I continue to create the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man pinata. Furthermore, I had an excellent Mexican dinner this evening.Today is Cinco de Mayo ("The Fifth of May" in Spanish). The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

It commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. However, the Mexican victory at Puebla only delayed the French invasion of Mexico City, and a year later, the French occupied Mexico. The French occupying forces placed Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico on the throne of Mexico; Maximillian and the French were eventually defeated and expelled in 1867, five years after the Battle of Puebla.

The reference to the Battle of Puebla is seen as a symbolic cultural link to those who had to overcome insurmountable odds while facing adversity. In neighborhoods such as East Los Angeles, the Mission District of San Francisco, East San Jose and elsewhere throughout the Southwest, Cinco de Mayo is most accurately characterized as a day of celebration to honor a culture that fuses Mexican heritage and American life experience.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man recognizes that important contribution of many people of Mexican decent who work in the landscaping industry. I want to prevent any Mexicans from getting hurt. No mulched and shredded Mexicans!

Armadillo

The Armadillo knows personal protective equipment.

"I wear my personal protective equipment every day. I have a bony armor shell. The armor is formed by plates of dermal bone covered in small, overlapping epidermal scales called "scutes". This armor-like skin appears to be the main defense of many armadillos. I am the little armored one." - Army Armadillo

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has invited Army Armadillo to join the Yard Safety Crusaders.

Outdoor Chemicals

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man provides the following tips with regards to outdoor chemicals:

Make sure all chemicals are stored in their original containers according to manufacturer's recommendations.
Read the use and storage directions before using products. Original labels on product containers often give important first-aid information.
When using harsh products follow safety recommendations, such as wearing gloves and masks. Do not mix products together because their contents could react together with dangerous results.
Use child-resistant caps on dangerous products.
Pesticides are extremely hazardous - consider substituting non-poisonous insecticides whenever possible.
Store and use pool chemicals according to the manufacturer's directions, always in tightly covered original containers, in a dry place.
Keep yard chemicals away from other chemicals and products.

Be yard safe! Think yard safety! Think before you cut. It hurts! Be a yard safety crusader!
