Barber

Grass is like head hair on the surface of the Earth. The grass grows. After it grows so long, the grass barber gives the Earth a haircut. A barber practices hair cut safety; the barber does not want to hurt himself or the customer. Likewise, the grass barber must practice yard safety; the grass barber does not want to hurt himself or others nearby the grass cut venue. Therefore, think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Hemisphere

It is Winter and snow removal season in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere. At any given time, regardless of season, the northern and southern hemispheres experience opposite seasons. Therefore, it is Summer in the Southern Hemisphere; it is grass cut season. Yard safety awareness is global and perpetual for all seasons regardless of the hemisphere.

Red Snow

It is Winter and snow season. Several million households and businesses will require snow removal from their properties. Be careful. Think before you operate the snow removal equipment. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man provides the following snow thrower safety tips with the goal of preventing any accidents.

Snow Throwers Safety Tips

Read the snow thrower equipment owner's manual thoroughly and understand all recommended operating and safety procedures before turning on the snow thrower.
Clear the intended snow removal area of potential flying objects, such as stones or toys, before you begin throwing snow; loose objects can project out of the snow thrower and hit nearby people and objects. Be aware of objects hidden under the snow.
Never smoke when filling the gas tank. Avoid gasoline spills (be good to Mother Nature.)
Never put your hands in the snow thrower chute for any reason. When the snow is wet, the snow thrower chute may become clogged. When this happens, turn off the snow thrower engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop. Then, with a cleanout tool, clear the chute. If repair is needed, be sure to turn the engine off first and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop.
Never allow children to operate the equipment. Keep children indoors and under supervision.
Never throw snow toward people or cars.
Never allow anyone in front of the equipment.
Keep the snow thrower in good working order. Maintenance. Maintenance. Maintenance.
Wear appropriate reflective clothing and footwear for the weather and activity. Avoid wearing loose fitting clothing. Wear safety glasses to protect eyes from thrown ice, stones, and other projectiles. Keep your hair away from the snow thrower.
Never disable safety features on the snow thrower equipment. Please refer to the snow thrower owner's manual for details.

Keep the snow white. Red snow is not a sign of safe snow. Keep it safe.

Treadmill

Once again, Dr. Olasky has impacted my life. Likewise, I started exercising on a treadmill as another milestone in my recovery after having a severe lawn mower accident a few years ago. Indeed, it has been a long and winding road. I met Dr. Olasky in Pittsburgh in January 2005 while he offered a guest two-day lecture at a Reformed Presbyterian church. I was excited to go and listen to his spiritual journey, including advisor to President George W. Bush. I was having some very severe life challenges, and I was blessed to meet some great people in the church and other religions as well. At the time, I did not really know what compassionate conservatism really means. After a few years, I now have a better understanding. I do recognize that Dr. Olasky lives his writings. That weekend in Pittsburgh two years ago, I was so excited to meet Dr. Olasky, and I was thrilled to tell him my story. He listened to me in a compassionate manner. He demonstrated that care for the poor must be the responsibility of private individuals and organizations, particularly the Christian church. He gave me hope and reinvigorated my faith. It became clear that private charity has the power to change lives because it allows for a personal connection between the giver and the recipient. Moreover, the poor can be compassionate to others as well. Dr. Olasky has written several dozens of books. The next book that I read on the treadmill will be "Renewing American Compassion: How Compassion for the Needy Can Turn Ordinary Citizens into Heroes" by Dr. Marvin Olasky (1996). I wonder if this book is on tape or CD. It would be easier for me to listen to books while on the treadmill. It has been a challenge for me to maintain my balance and stay on the treadmill. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Ridiculous

It is my pleasure to respond to some critics of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man who view my passion for yard safety as ridiculous. I have met many people during my travels that have been very supportive of my yard safety campaign featuring Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm). Likewise, I have encountered some people who view me as a flake and silly goose. On the surface, my campaign may appear silly; it is intended to educate and entertain, leading to increased yard safety awareness and caution. In essence, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world™. Nonetheless, I can assure you that this campaign is not a joke. I had a lawn mower accident that cost me part of my body, cost me thousands of dollars, cost me several attractive career opportunities, cost me hardship with my friends and family, cost me frustration, pain, and suffering, cost me my reputation, cost me future surgeries and health complications, etc. In a positive light, I have gained a deeper gratitude for what I do and still have as well as several positive awakenings. Likewise, I can rest assured that the millions of other individuals who have experienced yard accidents can state similar stories to varying degrees. In short, you may think that this campaign is silly until someone gets hurt. At the very least, if you still think it is silly, then you have been granted awareness. For instance, please do not take a child for a ride while mowing the grass with a riding lawn mower; many children fall off resulting in amputated limbs. Then, you are a silly goose. Be careful. Think before you cut. It hurts! (tm)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

It is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King was a promoter of non-violent social change. Like Dr. King, I believe in servant leadership; I have a dream also. In particular, I want to rescue people from experiencing yard accidents. Yard accidents do not discriminate. They happen to all people regardless of their race, color, religion, creed, or national origin. Each year, there are 100,000 lawn mower accidents and 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents. It is time for some more behavioral and social change. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) wants to make a contribution toward the elimination of yard accidents. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Yard Safety School

President Bush gave birth to the "Leave No Child Behind" educational plan. We are all children of God. Likewise, I want to make sure that each child learns about yard safety awareness. Actually, I wish that Yard Safety Awareness could become a national education program since often times children cut grass to make some money or satisfy family chores. Furthermore, children are involved in about 25% of all yard accidents.

We are all children of God. Therefore, I encourage communities to offer Yard Safety Awareness educational programs as part of community continuing education programs. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is available to make special appearances to add some entertainment value to the educational experience. I want the yard safety message to stick and not the blade. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

Senior Parent Awareness

President Bush gave birth to the "Leave No Child Behind" educational plan. We are all children of God. Thus, I recognize that the senior community should not be left behind, including senior parents. Therefore, I have coined the phrase "Leave No Parent Behind." Parents are often times there to help their children. The senior parent sometimes needs the help of the children. Therefore, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man promotes Senior Parent Awareness (SPA) before it is too late. Thank you to all senior parents. You have not been left behind in my mind. Likewise, senior parents can still teach their children, grandchildren, and communities about yard safety awareness. Live before it is too late!

Faith

My faith has helped me to recover from a severe yard accident. I still have some complications. Nonetheless, I am driven by a desire to glorify God through my yard safety awareness desire (YSAD). I still have some issues. It is all part of God's plan for me. I want to broadcast my yard safety awareness so that other individuals, families, and institutions do not get hurt or die. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
