The Masterpiece

I have been asked by several people recently about how I could set a price of over $1,000,000 for the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man painting entitled "The Lawn Mower Accident." I have been criticized that I am no Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, to name a few masters. My response to them, "You are correct. I am Richard Mudrinich, and I believe in my painting." I am making passionate brush strokes to advance my yard safety awareness advocacy. My painting "The Lawn Mower Accident" depicts grass needing a "hair cut" coupled with the aftermath of a lawn mower accident on the other side. The capillary action of the blades of grass draws the victim blood up toward the heavens. The sacrificed flesh demonstrates the need for even more yard safety awareness. Likewise, up from the puddle of blood and blood-soaked soil, the sunflower embraces the birth and evolution of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety awareness campaign. It represents the beacon of light that will shine and drive more advances and create more awareness about the importance of yard safety leading toward the elimination of yard accidents - including those involving outdoor power equipment. I recognize the value in the message of the "The Lawn Mower Accident" painting. I think others will enjoy and appreciate the meaning of the painting as well. I want to make yard accident extinct. Indeed, I am not Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, da Vinci or Rembrandt. I am Richard Mudrinich, painting with the passion and spirit of Rescue rick the Grass Cut Man. The positive attention gained from selling the Rescue Rick painting for over $1,000,000 will help spread the word and provide needed funds to advance the advocacy. Thank you.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man paints with his altered left foot and his right hand (in sections of paintings involving more detail). The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Artwork (tm) communicates a message of yard safety. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man attaches the paintbrush to his partially amputated left foot to fill the void and channel his passion for safety through his foot on to the canvas. For information on the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Artwork (tm), please contact Richard Mudrinich (Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man) via contact information at https://www.rescuerick.com. Thank you.

To Be, Or Not To Be

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despis'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.-- Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

Social Entrepreneurship

Most lawn mower accidents occur between April and October, with June being the peak accident month. I had a lawnmower accident that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot. There are over 400,000 yard accidents each year; there needs to be better data collection related to yard accidents.

For the past 22 years, I have advocated for yard safety awareness. Along the way, I have inspired many corporations and individuals to get more serious about creating awareness as well. In addition, I have inspired several corporations and entrepreneurs to commercialize many of my ideas. I have tried to develop collaborations, partnerships, strategic alliances, etc. (whatever you want to call it), yet I keep getting exploited and ignored. In particular, with a partially amputated left foot, I am obsessed with developing and marketing my yard safety shoe concept. I envision the commercial success of the yard shoe as a key ingredient to fuel my social enterprise endeavor to help other people. It is very difficult to accomplish while living in perpetual poverty. I will continue to plug along in isolation.

In the meantime, please follow safety guidelines regarding all types of yard work. Think before you cut. It hurts! Be yard safe!

Post Concussion Syndrome

I experienced several concussions in a short period of time a few years ago that have really impacted my brain and body. I have been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome. I wish that I had my healthy brain again. It is very challenging and frustrating to live with a traumatic brain injury, especially when I have so many things that I would like to accomplish. I encourage everyone to be careful, especially when walking on ice. Then, if balance disorders evolve, I encourage those impacted to be careful not to fall any more or walk/fall into doorways, floors, or walls (to name a few). Also, I would not be ashamed of wearing a helmet to protect your brain and head. Furthermore, I hope that brain injury awareness continues to grow in 2026. Thank you for your consideration.

Babette

I developed a passion for disabled and challenged persons at a young age. As a child, I had a dog named Babette who developed a condition called "floating kneecaps." In essence, her kneecaps would slip out of place, and she would drag her legs or walk only on her front paws. Furthermore, Babette had a very sweet personality. She loved everyone. Furthermore, I reached out to Babette recognizing some of her physical limitations and admiring her many positive characteristics. Unfortunately, Babette was killed by a car during a visit by one of my relatives who let Babette out to get some fresh-air. I did not learn about this until it was too late. It was a very sad day because Babette embodied a spirit of innocence and love for all animals and people. Babette was a wonderful little doggy.

After my lawn mower accident, I had a series of surgeries to care for the partial amputation of my left foot. Often times, I thought about my little brave doggy Babette who made such a profound impact on everyone who met her. I gained some inspiration and strength from that little doggy.

In the spirit of Babette, I have developed a passion for disabled persons and disabled animals. Actually, I am now a disabled person.  Also, I am very grateful for all the people who have made contributions to address the needs of people with disabilities. Citizen Kane had Rosebud. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man had Babette.

Opera

The Rescue Rick Opera ©

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has written a very short opera to tell his story and express the pain and emotions associated with his lawn mower accident. The opera is a combination of an opera buffa (comedy) and verismo (real story). In an operatic baritone voice, Rescue Rick(sm) belts out the aria “I Cut Off My Big Toe and Some.”  Rescue Rick(sm) is truly a renaissance yardman. The libretto (text) is provided below:

“I Cut Off My Big Toe and Some”

I cut the grass.
I slipped.
I cut off my big toe.
I mulched my foot.
My shoe was mulched to shreds.
My wallet was mulched as well.
I pushed back the skin on the top of my foot.
I was in shock.
I almost lost consciousness.
My foot was a bloody mess.
It hurt.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
I yelled Help Help Help with no response.
I became calm and composed.
I ran instinctively to get help.
Rescue Rick was rescued.
Go get my big toe.
Morphine.
Antibiotics.
Surgery.
Recovery.
I have a dream also.
Innovate and create.
Educate and communicate.
Entertain and impact.
Prevent yard accidents.
Think before you cut. It hurts!™

Presidents' Day

Presidents' Day is the third Monday in February! This holiday was created to celebrate the deeds of two legendary American Presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I spent the day reading more about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and all the other Presidents of the United States of America. It is really fascinating to read of the lives and accomplishments of these great leaders. It takes a special person to become the President. I am intrigued by government and politics.

Democracy promotes freedom. Feedom promotes innovation. Innovation leads to finding ways to improve the lives of people. I would be thrilled to collaborate with all living American Presidents toward improving yard safety so that the 400,000 yard accidents each year (as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) are eliminated. In America, I realize that anything can happen. Right now, I am dreaming of an American Dream. In the future, I hope to meet President Trump (45, 47) President Biden (46), President Obama (44), President Bush (43), and President Clinton (42). I would like to ask them for their assistance in promoting yard safety awareness. I have a dream. I have a vision to rescue people and to eliminate yard accidents.

Since yard safety awareness is a global issue, I want to extend my passion for yard safety beyond America and to collaborate with leaders around the globe. Eventually, I would like to ride a lawn mower completely around the world.

The American Dream Lives. Celebrate Presidents' Day.

Spring Training

It is Spring Training and another Major League Baseball season is around the corner. Soon, fans will flock to ballparks across the nation. At most ballparks, ground crews will present some of the finest natural turfs in America. The grass will grow and need cut. Likewise, millions of baseball fans will grass cut their yards. Each season, baseball fans will have yard accidents at their homes and beyond.  Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) wants to partner with Major League Baseball to drive a yard safety awareness campaign. I propose that each Major League Baseball club promote a yard safety awareness day, including the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Bobblehead Doll™ as a promotional item.

February 14th

Valentine's Day is celebrated annually on February 14th. For me, Valentine's Day represents the day that my maternal grandmother passed away as well. My maternal grandmother Pauline Isadore Ogden Snyder died on February 14, 1951 due to an intracerebral hemorrhage. I never met my grandmother; she died when my mom was 16 years-old. It had a dramatic impact on the development of mom that ultimately shaped my personality. My mom was devastated by the sudden death of my grandmother. My uncle was even more devastated since he was only a few years old and lying on my grandmother at the time of her hemorrhagic stroke; it affected his entire life. As for my mom, she strived to be loved; she was a people pleaser. Likewise, I have strived to treat others with love and respect. I recognize that life is short. I want to entertain other people so that I can add some fun and joy to their lives. Happy Valentine's Day!

Personal Protective Equipment

Many parts of America are covered with snow. Nonetheless, the first day of Spring will occur next month. Incidentally, I have suggested that the first day of Spring be known as Yard Safety Awareness Day. In preparation, I offer the following guidelines with regards to Personal Protective Equipment. I suggest that it is not too early to get ready for a safe year of yard work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Wear sturdy closed-toe safety protective shoes with slip-proof soles (never mow in your bare feet, sandals or sneakers).
Wear close-fitting clothing (long pants) - no capes.
Wear gloves.
Wear protective safety eyeglasses.
Wear hearing protection.
Wear a respirator.
Wear a helmet with face shield.

Prepare for yard safety by wearing your Personal Protective Equipment. Think before you cut. It hurts. Be Safe.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of ancient Chinese medicine involving treatment by massage of reflex areas in the feet. Every part of the feet corresponds to a part of the body with the left foot representing the left side of the body and the right foot, the right side. An imaginary line halfway down the foot corresponds to the waistline, with organs in the upper part of the body having their reflex areas in the upper part of the foot and the organs in the lower part of the body, in the lower part. Thus, the reflexes of the feet are arranged to form a map of the body.

I amputated my left big toe due to a severe lawnmower accident. The reflexology map of the foot illustrates that the big toe, for example, is considered a reflex area for the head. I lost my left big toe. Some people think that I might have lost my mind because of my obessive compulsive drive to create yard safety awareness. I might have lost part of my mind. Actually, for a few months after my big toe amputation, there was sometimes a disconnect with my ability to think - including my memory. Nonetheless, I have not lost my will to find a cure for yard accidents and to create awareness so that other individuals and families do not have to endure such a traumatic experience.

I will continue to monitor the mind-body connection between my left big toe stump site and my left brain. Also, I will check to see if my right brain has advanced since my right big toe is now compensating for the lack of my left big toe. Indeed, I am fascinated by this ironic phenomenon between the big toe (lack of big toe) and the brain.

Digital Totem Pole

I have created a digital totem pole on my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man website. It is a vertical stack of digital photographs and clip art that tells my yard accident story in reverse chronological order. I have always been intrigued by the art, the concept, and the origins of the totem pole. I salute Native Americans for a brilliant idea.

Professional Golfers' Association of America

There is another super hero in town. I am a long-time fan of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, including a long-time golfer. Presently, I am a disabled person. Nonetheless, I present to you Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) - a yard safety super hero. I had a lawn mower accident that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot. Consequently, I have been an advocate and promoter of yard safety, with the goal to prevent these outdoor power equipment accidents from happening to other people.

Furthermore, I have been a renaissance yardman, utilizing various art forms to communicate my safety message. We all recognize the talent and care required to manicure golf courses - some of the greatest landscape architecture in the world. Thus, I want to partner with the PGA about the possibility of dedicating one day each golf season as Yard Safety Awareness Day. Each year, there are about 400,000 individuals (about 20% children) who experience lawn mower and garden-tool-related accidents, often times resulting in severe and life-altering outcomes.

Since golf is America's fastest growing sport enjoyed by millions of people and played on natural turf, I ask for any assistance that you may provide to facilitate this humanitarian idea. In addition, I have been an inventor and innovator of various yard safety products and services, including yard footwear inspired by amputating part of my foot with a lawn mower.  I have struggled financially for several years for various reasons, making it difficult to accomplish anything. Thank you for your consideration. I can be reached at (724) 347-4078. Best wishes!

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2. It is held in the United States and Canada. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that Winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and Winter will continue for six more weeks. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where crowds as high as 40,000 have gathered to celebrate the holiday since at least 1886. Many towns that celebrate Groundhog Day throughout North America have Winter-predicting groundhogs. By far, the most notable groundhog is Punxsutawney Phil of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The 1993 comedy movie Groundhog Day takes place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on this day. The main character (played by Bill Murray) is forced to relive the day over and over again until he can learn to give up his selfishness and become a better person. In popular culture, the phrase "Groundhog Day" has come to represent going through a phenomenon over and over until one spiritually transcends it.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man relives Yard Safety Day every day of the year. In an unselfish manner, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man strives to create yard safety awareness in preparation for the advent of Spring and beyond. Furthermore, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man sees his shadow every day representing another 365 days of yard safety. Happy Groundhog Day!
