Rescue Little Myra

I have personal experience of many trials and tribulations associated with severe yard accidents. Nonetheless, I want to share a story about a 4-year-old girl and her family who are great people and need some immediate assistance and care. MYRA IS A HERO.

Indeed, I have become aware of some real yard safety crusaders who are great heroes. For instance, I have been blessed to learn about Myra Mackenzie Barco-Calderon, a 4-year-old girl, who was run over by a riding lawnmower. I refer to Myra as Little Myra, yet she is a big hero to me. Little Myra is a great inspiration to many people, including Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. Recently, I came across a few online news stories that I must share with the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man audience. Please read this family story. MYRA AND HER FAMILY NEED HELP!

Financial woes grip family
A FOLLOW-UP VISIT WITH MYRA MACKENZIE BARCO-CALDERON

Inside the family room, Myra Mackenzie Barco-Calderon bounced from sofa to chair as her mother, Rachelle, leafed through a folder full of medical bills Thursday afternoon.

Rachelle said Myra, 4, was supposed to have a follow-up visit after her June 18 surgery, but didn’t go because the family couldn’t afford to travel 45 miles to Charlottesville.

In April, husband Rafael Barco-Calderon lost his delivery driver job. About a month later, he quit his job after five weeks because of minimal hours.

“That put us in a bad situation,” he said.

On June 16, the Barco-Calderon’s luck finally changed.

Rafael started working for an oil recycling company, traveling to and from Leesburg, Herndon, Reston, Warrenton and Madison.

Financially, though, the family is still “in really bad financial shape,” he said. “We’ve been living off of credit cards and we’re late on the mortgage.”

He says he’s appreciative that his new employer started providing health insurance his first day of work. But the bills continued to pile up.

Last week, a Culpeper County sheriff’s deputy served the family with a warrant from U.Va. for unpaid debts, according to Rachelle.

“We thought that our bills were still being paid by our (former) insurance,” she said. “So I didn’t do anything, and then all of a sudden we get this warrant.”

The Barco-Calderons are still applying for financial aid with the University of Virginia Health System. Rachelle says the family needs financial help, legal advice and some extra hands around the house to make phone calls to bill collectors.

“Every time I talk to them,” she said, “I get emotional and start to cry.”

To make ends meet, Rachelle sews and sells baby slings and other items via her Web site, mommascloset.com.

“It pays for the food and it pays for the electric,” she said.

Care More

It seems that nobody really cares about yard safety. Nonetheless, I have a dream to find a cure for yard accidents. Indeed, I have met some people who think that I am a fool and idiot with my approach toward promoting yard safety awareness.

Also, some people think that my ambitious adventures and vision as a social entrepreneur to create yard safety products and services is a pipe dream, given some of my life challenges. Furthermore, I need to develop and sell my yard safety products and services in order to generate money to give to individuals and families impacted by yard accidents who suffer and need assistance. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is the inventor of yard safety footwear. I need to protect my fellow grass cutters (landscapers, outdoor enthusiasts, yard manicurists, home yard caretakers, etc.) from getting hurt, and I need to channel funds and resources to those who have been hurt. I hope that this might explain some Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man frustration associated with disrespect and disregard for some of my yard safety innovations, yet execution and implementation of some stellar ideas and products. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man cares more - not care less - about total yard safety wellness.

Thou Shalt Not Steal

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man shares some biblical references on the topic of theft in response to the theft of some of his intellectual property.

Thou shalt not steal. Exodus 20:15

If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, [there shall] no blood [be shed] for him. If the sun be risen upon him, [there shall be] blood [shed] for him; [for] he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. Creeper

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man introduces the yard safety awareness infant creeper (tm). I have gotten to know a young woman who is approaching the birth and delivery of her first child - it's a boy. I have enjoyed living vicariously through her regarding the pregnancy process. It is very fascinating. Recently, she had a baby shower. I was not invited. I realize that most baby showers tend to be women-only. Nonetheless, I do not want her baby to ever have a yard accident, especially involving outdoor power equipment.

I want to encourage parents to remember to always protect their children while they are playing and working in the yard. Therefore, I presented her with a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Infant Creeper (tm) to remind her and her husband of the importance of yard safety awareness. Also, I encourage other parents and families to learn more about yard safety awareness so that they and their children can avoid these often times severe accidents.
