I watched the holiday television special - A Charlie Brown Christmas - a few days ago. In particular, I really enjoy listening to the teacher say wha wha, wha wha. I recognize that adults only speak wha wha in the Charlie Brown comic world. Nonetheless, I understand that she is saying Yard Safety, Yard Safety. Nonetheless, there are many people who hear blah blah, blah blah with regards to yard safety. Blah is a word that is sometimes used as an expression for words or feelings where the specifics are not considered important to the speaker or writer. Blah, blah, blah, blah is often used to show irritation towards someone who speaks monotonously or on a tedious topic. Sometimes people say "blah blah blah blah blah" to represent their monotonous attitude. It is a shame that many people do not care about yard safety awareness until somebody gets hurts. Think before you cut. It hurts. Be yard safe! Wha Wha not Blah Blah! Think yard safety!

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has designated the FIRST DAY OF EACH SEASON as Yard Safety Awareness Day (tm). I recognize that the grass grows and the snow falls year-round all around the world. There is always a grass cut and snow removal season somewhere in the world.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has designated December 21st or 22nd (First Day of Winter) of each year as Yard Safety Awareness Winter Day (tm). I want to promote yard safety awareness all over the world. Whether it is snowing or grass growing, the first day of Winter calls for another opportunity to refresh and develop a commitment to yard safety. Give the gift of Yard Safety Awareness for the Holiday Season.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) shares some snow removal tips while using Snow Throwers below:

Read the snow thrower equipment owner's manual thoroughly and understand all recommended operating and safety procedures before turning on the snow thrower.

Clear the intended snow removal area of potential flying objects, such as stones or toys, before you begin throwing snow; loose objects can project out of the snow thrower and hit nearby people and objects. Be aware of objects hidden under the snow.

Never smoke when filling the gas tank. Avoid gasoline spills (be good to Mother Nature.)

Never put your hands in the snow thrower chute for any reason. When the snow is wet, the snow thrower chute may become clogged. When this happens, turn off the snow thrower engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop. Then, with a cleanout tool, clear the chute. If repair is needed, be sure to turn the engine off first and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop.

Never allow children to operate the equipment. Keep children indoors and under supervision.

Never throw snow toward people or cars.

Never allow anyone in front of the equipment.

Keep the snow thrower in good working order. Maintenance. Maintenance. Maintenance.

Wear appropriate reflective clothing and footwear for the weather and activity. Avoid wearing loose fitting clothing. Wear safety glasses to protect eyes from thrown ice, stones, and other projectiles. Keep your hair away from the snow thrower.

Happy Hanukkah! This year Hanukkah falls on the secular calendar December 20 -28, 2011.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights or Festival of Rededication, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that starts on the 25th day of Kislev, which may be in December, late November, or, while very rare in occasion, early January (as was the case for the Hanukkah of 2005–2006).

The holiday was called Hanukkah meaning "dedication" because it marks the re-dedication of the Temple after its desecration under Antiochus IV. Spiritually, Hanukkah commemorates the Miracle of the Oil. According to the Talmud, at the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem following the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire, there was only enough consecrated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple for one day. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days - which was the length of time it took to press, prepare and consecrate new oil.

Thanksgiving is a traditional North American holiday to give thanks at the conclusion of the harvest season. In keeping with the holiday theme of giving thanks, during the socializing or meal, people talk about what they are thankful for or tell about experiences during the past year which have caused them to feel grateful. Families and friends gather for a reunion, a day of thanks, and a festive meal.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to express his gratitude for the many individuals and families who have expressed concern and support over the years. Thanks for giving! I am grateful for the many people who have reached out to me in support of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety awareness advocacy. In the Fall, individuals often use their lawn mowers to mulch fallen leaves. The slippery leaves contribute to the increased risk of a lawn mower accident. Watch out for sticks and objects hidden by the leaves as well as slippery slopes. Halloween affords yet another fun time to share the preventive yard safety message in another unique way.

As a show of support for yard safety awareness and a tribute to all those people who have gotten hurt, including severe amputations, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man encourages both children and adults to dress-up as yard safety super heroes - a Halloween costume with a social purpose. And hence was born Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

Today is the birthday celebration of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. On September 21, 2003, I had a serious lawn mower accident, resulting in the partial amputation of my left foot. My life changed on that day. I received a divine message to promote yard safety awareness.

I was grass cutting, and I had only a few feet of grass to cut - possibly for the entire year. I was using a push mower. I slipped and my left foot went under the mower and came in contact with the blade. My left foot was sliced and mulched resulting in a severe amputation and wound. I was sent by life-flight helicopter from my local hospital in the Sharon Regional Health System to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where I had a series of extensive surgical operations. I want to thank all of the medical professionals for their care and talents. Nonetheless, I have had a long road toward recovery.

Consequently, I have created awareness regarding the frequency and severity of lawn mower accidents. I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Furthermore, I have been compelled to present some lawn mower safety measures with hopes to significantly minimize the occurrences and magnitudes of these costly, life-altering, mutilating, and painful events. I strive to find a cure for yard accidents.

Each year, there are over 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yard work accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. In addition, the estimated medical, legal, insurance and disability costs and other expenses of these injuries are over a billion dollars each year. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man presents preventive measures to rescue (hence, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) - a real-life caped crusader for yard safety) individuals and families from going through the dreaded experience associated with lawn mower accidents. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man and the Yard Safety Crusaders promote the safe use of the entire spectrum of outdoor power equipment. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has provided similar outreach to other individuals impacted by a yard accident.

The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the "working man". It is still celebrated mainly as a day of rest and marks the symbolic end of summer for many. Labor Day became a federal holiday by Act of Congress in 1894.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man works tirelessly to promote yard safety awareness as well as develop and market various innovative yard safety products and services. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is obsessive and compulsive about protecting and saving individuals, families, and institutions from experiencing a yard accident. For instance, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is the inventor of yard (garden grass lawn landscaping mowing turf) safety footwear. I will take a moment to remember the many union and non-union workers (including my dad who worked as a crane operator for 43 years at Sharon Steel Corporation). My dad (Robert N. Mudrinich) died in 1995. He was an innovative genius and inventor. In addition, he was a great humanitarian helping anyone who needed assistance. His community contributions included: family resources, legal research, nuts-and-bolts projects, psychological assistance, social work, etc. He helped those individuals both more and less fortunate than himself. Also, my mom has worked in child care for over three decades. She has raised children, cherished grandchildren, embraced children of deceased parents, acted as the adopted grandmother for some children, comforted the mentally challenged, cared for the community, etc. She has cancer, and she still cares for others (often times before herself). In the spirit of my dad and mom, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man strives to innovate yard safety to an unprecedented level with the intention to circle the globe.

Father's Day

It is FATHER'S DAY this Sunday, June 19, 2011. It is important for FATHERS around the world to teach their children about yard safety. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Also, I want to offer my condolences and sympathies to those individuals and families whose fathers have passed away.

In particular, I want to take a moment and reflect and pay tribute to my dad, Robert N. Mudrinich (December 22, 1930 - November 13, 1995). My dad died November 13, 1995. My dad was the greatest man that I have ever known. He was Christ-like in many ways, and he was very resourceful and patient. He reached out to those less fortunate as well as those more fortunate. He was self-taught on many levels. He was an innovative and inventive genius. My dad really was a super hero. Therefore, it is no wonder that I want to save the world from yard accidents. My dad would have been the biggest fan and ingenious supporter of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety advocacy. Now, my dad lives with Jesus; his body rests in Morefield Cemetery located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. My dad was a saint. Memorial Day is an American holiday dedicated to the memory of all war dead. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) is grateful for all of the men and women who have served in the U. S. military to protect and defend their country and to promote freedom, so that I can dress as a yard safety super hero and promote yard safety awareness. Often times, American citizens extend the concept of honoring war dead to all dead. I want to take a moment of silence to remember family members, friends, and fellow Americans who have passed away. (SILENCE)

Also, I must remember the individuals who have died while grass cutting - killed by outdoor power equipment. (SILENCE) The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that there have been over 3,000 fatalities during the past 30 years. In recent years, there are still about 150 lawn mower fatalities each year. This is one reason that the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) campaign exists. It is unfortunate that war sometimes results in loss of life while fighting for your country as a true patriot. Again, I want to thank all of the American soldiers who have served and are currently serving their country. Furthermore, it is really unfortunate to die from a fatal outdoor power equipment accident. Wake-up America! Indeed, you can die from cutting grass. Think before you cut. It can kill you. BE SAFE! National Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man promotes colorectal cancer awareness. I had a colonoscopy last year.

March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal (colon cancer) is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in men and women. But what many people don't know is that it's largely preventable. You can significantly reduce your risk with regular screening, and by watching your weight and being physically active. (Source: American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org)

Colorectal cancer is cancer that starts in either the colon or the rectum. Not counting skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in this country. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man promotes colon health and colorectal cancer awareness. I have pasted several excerpts from the American Cancer Society website on Colorectal Cancer. Please visit the American Cancer Society website (http://www.cancer.org) for more detailed information.

The American Cancer Society and several other medical organizations recommend earlier testing for people with increased colorectal cancer risk. These recommendations differ from those for people at average risk. Even though medical professionals do not know the exact cause of most colorectal cancers, it is possible to prevent many colorectal cancers. For more information, talk with your doctor.

Colorectal Screening

Regular colorectal cancer screening or testing is one of the most powerful weapons for preventing colorectal cancer. Screening is the process of looking for cancer in people who have no symptoms of the disease.

Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy are screening exams for colorectal cancer (commonly referred to as "colon cancer"). But false information and a misplaced sense of modesty have scared some people away from these lifesaving tests. Since Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man had a colonoscopy, I will focus on the the colonoscopy screening exam. Once again, please refer to the American Cancer Society website (http://www.cancer.org) for comprehensive cancer information.

A colonoscopy is an exam that allows a doctor to closely look at the inside of the entire colon. The doctor is looking for polyps or signs of cancer. Polyps are small growths that over time can become cancer. The doctor uses a thin (about the thickness of a finger), flexible, hollow, lighted tube that has a tiny video camera. This tube is called a colonoscope. The colonoscope is gently eased inside the colon and sends pictures to a TV screen. Small amounts of air are puffed into the colon to keep it open and allow the doctor to see clearly.

The exam itself takes about 30 minutes. Patients are usually given medicine to help them relax and sleep during the procedure.

Your doctor decides how often you need this test, usually once every 10 years, depending on your personal risk for colon cancer. It's important for people to talk with their doctor to understand their risk for colon cancer, the guidelines they should follow for testing, and whether they need to start being tested at age 50 or earlier.

For the most part, patients are given medicine to sleep through the colonoscopy, so they won't feel anything. Air is pumped into the cleaned-out colon to keep it open so that doctors can get the best pictures. While it may cause slight discomfort, it should not hurt.

A colonoscopy is almost always done by a doctor, usually a gastroenterologist (a doctor whose specialty is the digestive tract) or a surgeon.

Colonoscopy is done in a private area; it may be a hospital outpatient department, a clinic, an ambulatory surgery center, or a doctor's office. The patient's privacy is a top concern.

The preparation for the colonoscopy makes you to go the bathroom a lot! The doctor will give you instructions. Read these carefully a few days ahead of time, since you may need to shop for special supplies and get laxatives from a pharmacy. If you are not sure about any of the instructions, call the doctor's office and go over them step by step with the nurse. Many people consider the bowel preparation (often called the "bowel prep") the most unpleasant part of the test. You follow a special diet the day before the exam and take very strong laxatives before the procedure. You may also need enemas to clean out the colon. The key to getting good pictures is to have the colon cleaned out.

Because colonoscopy is usually done with drugs that make you sleepy, people usually will miss a day of work. You'll need to stay close to a bathroom. You might want to schedule the exam for a Monday, so you can be at home the day before without taking that day off work.

Most people feel OK after a colonoscopy. They may feel a bit woozy from the drugs (anesthesia). They'll be watched and given fluids as they wake up. They may have some gas, which could cause mild discomfort. Because of the medicines given for the test, most facilities require that you bring someone to take you home.

If a small polyp is found, your doctor will probably remove it. Over time some polyps could become cancer. If your doctor sees a large polyp, a tumor, or anything else abnormal, a biopsy will be done. For the biopsy, a small piece of tissue is taken out through the colonoscope or sigmoidoscope. It is sent to a lab to be checked under a microscope for cancer or pre-cancer cells.

Colorectal cancer screening helps people stay well and save lives. Regular colorectal cancer testing is one of the most powerful weapons for preventing colorectal cancer. Removing polyps prevents colorectal cancer from ever starting. And cancers found in an early stage are more easily treated. Nine out of 10 people whose colon cancer is discovered early will be alive 5 years later. And many will live a normal life span.

But too often people don't get these tests. Then the cancer can grow and spread without being noticed, like a silent invader. In many cases, by the time people have any symptoms the cancer is very advanced and very hard to treat.

Saint Patrick

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man pays tribute to Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick provides great inspiration toward my yard safety awareness campaign. Indeed, grass is green. The green in the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man color scheme (red, yellow, and green) represents my appreciation for nature and my faith in advancing yard safety awareness on behalf of God. I appreciate the many efforts and contributions of Saint Patrick. I share below a few excerpts about Saint Patrick - a great man who delivered divine works on behalf of God.

Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born, probably in Roman Britain, about AD 385, and was originally called Maewyn. At the age of 16, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders that raided his village. Having been a pagan before, he became closer to Christianity during his captivity. He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years. During his training he became aware that his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity. He wished to return to Ireland and to convert the native pagans to Christianity, but his superiors instead appointed St. Palladius. However, two years later Palladius transferred to Scotland. Patrick, having adopted that Christian name earlier, was then appointed as second bishop to Ireland. Patrick was quite successful at winning converts which upset the Celtic Druids. Patrick was arrested several times, but escaped each time. He traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion of the Irish country to Christianity. His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. After that time, Patrick retired to County Down. He died on March 17 in AD 461. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.

Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland, although paleontologists have pointed out that no snakes were ever native to Ireland. (In response, some scholars say the snake story was a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans.) Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. This stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

The St. Patrick's Day custom came to America in 1737, the first year St. Patrick's Day was publicly celebrated, in Boston, Massachusetts. Today, people celebrate the day with parades, wearing green, and drinking beer.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man emphasizes that if you drink alcohol beyond the legal driving limit, then do not drive drunk. Also, if you are not driving, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man recommends that if you drink alcohol, then drink in moderation. Also, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man suggests that you be good to your body temple and do not pollute the environment of other people around you. Keep St. Patrick's Day green - not red!

A few years ago, I was visiting New York City. A highlight of my trip was meeting Michael Eisner on St. Patrick's Day while walking on the streets of Manhattan. I was still on crutches about six months after my lawn mower accident. I noticed him as he walked by me. Needless to say, I was compelled to present the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man concept to Mr. Eisner for his consideration. I hobbled on my crutches over to him, and I asked, "Are you Michael Eisner?" He responded, "Yes I am!" I shared my story with him. I am very grateful for the opportunity to speak with Michael Eisner about my yard safety awareness campaign. He was very gracious to me.

It would be a great thrill to meet Michael Eisner again. I met him during a challenging time in his career and life. It was announced a few weeks prior that Mr. Eisner would be leaving the Walt Disney Company. I am glad to see that he has moved on to a new chapter of his life with another series of successful ventures.

Presidents Day is the third Monday in February! This holiday was created to celebrate the deeds of two legendary American Presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I spent the day reading more about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and all the other Presidents of the United States of America. It is really fascinating to read of the lives and accomplishments of these great leaders. It takes a special person to become the President. I am intrigued by government and politics.

Democracy promotes freedom. Freedom promotes innovation. Innovation leads to finding ways to improve the lives of people. I would be thrilled to collaborate with all living American Presidents toward improving yard safety so that the 400,000 yard accidents each year (as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) are eliminated. In America, I realize that anything can happen. Right now, I am dreaming of an American Dream. In the future, I hope to meet President Obama (44), President Bush (43), President Clinton (42), President Bush (41), and President Carter (39). I would like to visit the White House to meet with the living Presidents. I would like to ask them for their assistance in promoting yard safety awareness. I have a dream. I have a vision to rescue people and to eliminate yard accidents.

Since yard safety awareness is a global issue, I want to extend my passion for yard safety beyond America and to collaborate with leaders around the globe. Eventually, I would like to ride a lawn mower completely around the world.

My dad was born on December 22nd. Happy Birthday Dad!

I want to take a moment and reflect and pay tribute to my dad, Robert N. Mudrinich (December 22, 1930 - November 13, 1995). My dad died November 13, 1995. My dad was the greatest man that I have ever known. He was Christ-like in many ways, and he was very resourceful and patient. He reached out to those less fortunate as well as those more fortunate. He was self-taught on many levels. He was an inventive genius. My dad really was a super hero. Therefore, it is no wonder that I want to save the world from yard accidents.

My dad would have been the biggest fan and ingenious supporter of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety advocacy. Now, my dad lives with Jesus; his body rests in Morefield Cemetery located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. I feel the presence of Jesus and my dad as I take steps toward achieving my life goals and mission. My dad was a saint. In many ways, I do not think that my dad would be surprised by my passion to reach out to other people. He would embrace Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, while some others think I am just an idiot. Read the snow thrower equipment owner's manual thoroughly and understand all recommended operating and safety procedures before turning on the snow thrower.

Clear the intended snow removal area of potential flying objects, such as stones or toys, before you begin throwing snow; loose objects can project out of the snow thrower and hit nearby people and objects. Be aware of objects hidden under the snow.

Never smoke when filling the gas tank. Avoid gasoline spills (be good to Mother Nature.)

Never put your hands in the snow thrower chute for any reason. When the snow is wet, the snow thrower chute may become clogged. When this happens, turn off the snow thrower engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop. Then, with a cleanout tool, clear the chute. If repair is needed, be sure to turn the engine off first and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop.

Never allow children to operate the equipment. Keep children indoors and under supervision.

I watched the holiday television special - A Charlie Brown Christmas - a few days ago. In particular, I really enjoy listening to the teacher say wha wha, wha wha. I recognize that adults only speak wha wha in the Charlie Brown comic world. Nonetheless, I understand that she is saying Yard Safety, Yard Safety. Nonetheless, there are many people who hear blah blah, blah blah with regards to yard safety. Blah is a word that is sometimes used as an expression for words or feelings where the specifics are not considered important to the speaker or writer. Blah, blah, blah, blah is often used to show irritation towards someone who speaks monotonously or on a tedious topic. Sometimes people say "blah blah blah blah blah" to represent their monotonous attitude. It is a shame that many people do not care about yard safety awareness until somebody gets hurts. Happy Hanukkah! This year Hanukkah falls on the secular calendar Wednesday, December 1, 2010 through Thursday, December 9, 2010.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights or Festival of Rededication, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that starts on the 25th day of Kislev, which may be in December, late November, or, while very rare in occasion, early January (as was the case for the Hanukkah of 2005–2006).

The holiday was called Hanukkah meaning "dedication" because it marks the re-dedication of the Temple after its desecration under Antiochus IV. Spiritually, Hanukkah commemorates the Miracle of the Oil. According to the Talmud, at the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem following the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire, there was only enough consecrated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple for one day. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days - which was the length of time it took to press, prepare and consecrate new oil.

Saint Nicholas

Yesterday was the feast day of Saint Nicholas.

While feasts of Saint Nicholas are not observed nationally, cities with strong German influences like Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and St. Louis celebrate St. Nick's Day on a scale similar to the German custom. As in other countries, many people in the United states celebrate a separate St Nicholas Day by putting their shoes outside their bedroom doors on the evening of Dec. 5th. St Nicholas then comes during the night. On the morning of Dec. 6th, those people will find their shoes filled with gifts and sugary treats. Widespread adoption of the tradition has spread among the German, Polish, Belgian and Dutch communities throughout the United States.

On the day after Thanksgiving or sometime in December, children and their families put up a Christmas Tree. A Christmas tree is a medium-sized pine, fir, or spruce tree that they put in their family room and decorate with ornaments and garlands of all sorts. They also normally put a star or angel on the top, as a symbol of Christ's birth. On the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, each child puts one empty stocking/sock on their fireplace. The following morning of 25 of December, the children awake to find that St. Nick has filled their stockings with candy and small presents (if the children have been good) or coal (if not). Gifts often include chocolate gold coins to represent the gold St. Nick gave to the poor and small trinkets. They also awake to find presents under the tree, wrapped in Christmas-themed paper. For these children, the relationship between St. Nick and Santa Claus is not clearly defined. Some parents explain that St. Nick is the same person as Santa Claus with St. Nick being the "official" name and Santa Claus being the "children's" name, while other parents explain that St. Nick is a separate person that is a helper of Santa Claus.

Later that day, Richard Mudrinich, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, met with Santa Claus at the North Pole. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (also know as Rescue Rick and The Grass Cut Man) is an advocate and promoter of yard safety, in particular grass cut safety. So, Rescue Rick went to the North Pole to give the jolly Big Guy his wish list for Christmas. “As the Holiday Season nears, I have decided to revisit Santa Claus to ask him for some gifts to spur my yard safety campaign. It worked when I was a kid,” winks Rescue Rick. “Santa Claus indicated that I have been a good man boy this year. Santa told me to believe and great outcomes will take place.”

Leading snowblower manufacturers indicate that the number one cause of operator injury comes from trying to unplug an iced up machine without turning off the engine (and consequently the snowblower). Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man observes Veterans Day. I have never served in the military during wartime or peacetime. I am trying to serve America and the world as a yard safety super hero.

Veterans Day is an American holiday for honoring living war veterans. It is both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states. The holiday has been observed annually on November 11 - first as Armistice Day, later as Veterans Day. The day has since evolved as a time for honoring living veterans who have served in the military during wartime or peacetime, partially to complement Memorial Day, which primarily honors the dead. There has been some discussion of whether a person's veteran status depends upon his/her retirement or discharge from any of the armed forces. However, the term applies to any that have honorably served their country or that have served in a war zone as directed by their superior officers or as directed by lawful orders given by their country.

In the Fall, individuals often use their lawn mowers to mulch fallen leaves. The slippery leaves contribute to the increased risk of a lawn mower accident. Watch out for sticks and objects hidden by the leaves as well as slippery slopes. Halloween affords yet another fun time to share the preventive yard safety message in another unique way.

As a show of support for yard safety awareness and a tribute to all those people who have gotten hurt, including severe amputations, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man encourages both children and adults to dress-up as yard safety super heroes - a Halloween costume with a social purpose. Who was a grass-cutting fan.
He cut off his big toe
Screaming oh no!
And hence was born Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

Today is the 7th birthday celebration of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. On September 21, 2003, I had a serious lawn mower accident, resulting in the partial amputation of my left foot. My life changed on that day. I received a divine message to promote yard safety awareness.

I was grass cutting, and I had only a few feet of grass to cut - possibly for the entire year. I was using a push mower. I slipped and my left foot went under the mower and came in contact with the blade. My left foot was sliced and mulched resulting in a severe amputation and wound. I was sent by life-flight helicopter from my local hospital in the Sharon Regional Health System to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where I had a series of extensive surgical operations. I want to thank all of the medical professionals for their care and talents. Nonetheless, I have had a long road toward recovery.

Consequently, I have created awareness regarding the frequency and severity of lawn mower accidents. I am the only yard safety advocate acting as an individual in the world. Indeed, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world. Furthermore, I have been compelled to present some lawn mower safety measures with hopes to significantly minimize the occurrences and magnitudes of these costly, life-altering, mutilating, and painful events. I strive to find a cure for yard accidents.

Each year, there are over 100,000 lawn mower accidents. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year. Estimates from past statistics indicate that yard work accidents fatally injure more than 3,000 people. In addition, the estimated medical, legal, insurance and disability costs and other expenses of these injuries are over a billion dollars each year. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man presents preventive measures to rescue (hence, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) - a real-life caped crusader for yard safety) individuals and families from going through the dreaded experience associated with lawn mower accidents. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man and the Yard Safety Crusaders promote the safe use of the entire spectrum of outdoor power equipment.

Furthermore, I want to give special thanks to my mom, family, and friends for their concern and support throughout my left foot ordeal. I give special appreciation and gratitude for my mom, Helen Mudrinich, for her care, grace, patience, and support regarding the many tribulations associated with my lawn mower accident. At the time, my mom had advanced uterine cancer, yet she still felt the need to care for her son. It was an amazing life story. Indeed, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has provided similar outreach to other individuals impacted by a yard accident.

Since the birth date of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man on September 21, 2003, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has achieved several accomplishments: yard safety awareness initiatives, products, programs, services, etc. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has reached millions of individuals, families, and institutions all over the world. Furthermore, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has made a positive impact on several individuals and industries related to yard safety - including some life-changing actions and events. I have inspired the entire green industry to rethink safety resulting in several new safety initiatives. However, I have learned first-hand that "no good deed goes unpunished." Nonetheless, I am very committed to yard safety! My life goal is to achieve zero yard accidents and to befriend other people who have experienced yard accidents. Little Amish Boy

Last year, I became aware of a local 6-year old Amish boy who lost both of his feet in a lawn mower accident. I attended a fund raising dinner for little Reuben Hostetler in Fredonia, Pennsylvania to help the family pay for medical bills. I met the parents Andrew and Rachel Hostetler, and I shared my passion for yard safety awareness to prevent these accidents from happening to other individuals, families, and institutions. Also, I donated some Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man silicone wristbands and leaflets for the family to raise funds and to disperse the yard safety message. I met Reuben. He was a little Amish kid having fun and spinning around in his new wheelchair. Like many lawn mower amputees, he will require much medical attention and care. Today is the 20th anniversary of the enactment of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is a law that was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990. It was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H. W. Bush, and later amended with changes effective January 1, 2009.

The Americans with Disabilities Act provides disabled citizens with civil protections that provide equal opportunities in education, communications, transportation and employment. The ADA is a wide-ranging civil rights law that prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal. Disability is defined by the ADA as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity." The determination of whether any particular condition is considered a disability is made on a case-by-case basis. It is FATHER'S DAY this Sunday, June 20, 2010. It is important for FATHERS around the world to teach their children about yard safety. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Also, I want to offer my condolences and sympathies to those individuals and families whose fathers have passed away.

In particular, I want to take a moment and reflect and pay tribute to my dad, Robert N. Mudrinich (December 22, 1930 - November 13, 1995). My dad died November 13, 1995. My dad was the greatest man that I have ever known. He was Christ-like in many ways, and he was very resourceful and patient. He reached out to those less fortunate as well as those more fortunate. He was self-taught on many levels. He was an innovative and inventive genius. My dad really was a super hero. Therefore, it is no wonder that I want to save the world from yard accidents. My dad would have been the biggest fan and ingenious supporter of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety advocacy. Now, my dad lives with Jesus; his body rests in Morefield Cemetery located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. My dad was a saint. He would have worn a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man T-Shirt around town with pride until it was threads. In many ways, I do not think that my dad would be surprised by my passion to reach out to other people. He would embrace Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, while some others think I am just an idiot. I wish that he still lived on Earth. I miss my dad. I really loved my dad. He was a great man. Before I die, I want to ride a lawn mower across America and then continue around the world. I want to be buried in my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man super hero costume.

Army Armadillo was born to highlight the need for personal protective equipment. Toxy Turfy advocates yard chemical safety. Shaky focuses on health and machine vibration concerns. Zilch is a number man who keeps count of yard accidents and dreams of the number zero when the goal of zero yard accidents is finally achieved. There is still work that needs to be done. I am grateful for my mom. My mom, Helen Mudrinich, has influenced Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. She has a long history of reaching out to help other people. She seems to always put other people before herself in a Christ-like fashion. Also, my mom has really cared for Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. She really helped me immediately after my lawn mower accident. It was a very difficult and challenging time for several reasons. My mom took care of me. Likewise, I have inherited a will to rescue people from having a yard accident. If not for my mom, the many yard safety innovations that Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man has introduced to the world would have never happened.

Also, I want to suggest to all mothers the importance of adding yard safety to the skills and tools that you give and teach your children. Each year, children represent about 20% of all people who get hurt from outdoor power equipment related accidents. Today is Earth Day! It is taking place on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Earth Day is intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a Green Hero.

Responding to wide spread environmental degradation, United States Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for an Environmental Teach-in or Earth Day to be held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day proved extremely popular in the United States and around the world. The first Earth Day, in 1970, had participants and celebrants in two thousand colleges and universities, roughly ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities across the United States. Good Friday is a holy day celebrated by Christians on the Friday before Easter. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary.

Special prayer services are often held on this day with readings from the Gospel accounts of the events leading up to the crucifixion. Mainstream Christian churches view Christ's crucifixion as a voluntary and vicarious act, and one by which, along with resurrection on the third day, death itself was conquered.

Jesus was crucified so that I (we) would be forgiven for all of my (our) sins. He was resurrected so that I (we) can live again in Heaven. Good Friday is Great God Friday for Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man. Jesus was and is God's plan. Good Friday is Love. Easter Day is Joy. Thank you Jesus.

Maundy Foot Wash

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday of Holy Week (the Thursday before Easter). It was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples, sharing a meal with them which we call the Last Supper.

In those days it was usual for a servant to wash the guests feet on arrival. On this occasion there was no servant present and none of the disciples volunteered to do the menial task. Instead, Jesus got up and washed his disciples feet, giving them an object lesson in humility and service. In some churches priests carry out a ceremonial washing of the feet of twelve men on Maundy Thursday as a commemoration of Christ's act.

It would be great to have Jesus wash my feet. I might even be surprised to be blessed with a miracle - a new big toe. Thank you Jesus for the Atonement. Jesus suffered horribly and died on the cross. Thank you for the forgiveness and repair of my (our) sins.

April Fools' Day although not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fools' errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible.

In this vein, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man regenerated his left big toe after taking several months of ballet lessons as part of his renaissance yard man plethora of yard safety communications. Actually, given advances in medicine, there might be a day when I can regenerate my big toe.

I had a colorectal cancer screening exam this morning. I have family history of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer is cancer that starts in either the colon or the rectum. Not counting skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in this country. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man promotes colon health and colorectal cancer awareness. I have pasted several excerpts from the American Cancer Society website on Colorectal Cancer. The American Cancer Society and several other medical organizations recommend earlier testing for people with increased colorectal cancer risk. These recommendations differ from those for people at average risk. The exam itself takes about 30 minutes. Patients are usually given medicine to help them relax and sleep during the procedure.

Presidents Day is the third Monday in February! This holiday was created to celebrate the deeds of two legendary American Presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I spent the day reading more about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and all the other Presidents of the United States of America. It is really fascinating to read of the lives and accomplishments of these great leaders. It takes a special person to become the President. I am intrigued by government and politics.

Democracy promotes freedom. Feedom promotes innovation. Innovation leads to finding ways to improve the lives of people. I would be thrilled to collaborate with all living American Presidents toward improving yard safety so that the 400,000 yard accidents each year (as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) are eliminated. In America, I realize that anything can happen. Right now, I am dreaming of an American Dream. In the future, I hope to meet President Obama (44), President Bush (43), President Clinton (42), President Bush (41), and President Carter (39). I would like to visit the White House to meet with the living Presidents. I would like to ask them for their assistance in promoting yard safety awareness. I have a dream. I have a vision to rescue people and to eliminate yard accidents.

Since yard safety awareness is a global issue, I want to extend my passion for yard safety beyond America and to collaborate with leaders around the globe. Eventually, I would like to ride a lawn mower completely around the world.

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man presents some snow shovel love safety tips. Snow has fallen. Snow will fall again. Snow needs to be moved safely.

Snow Shoveling Safety Tips:

If you are inactive and have a history of heart trouble, talk to your doctor before you take on the task of shoveling snow.

Avoid caffeine or nicotine before beginning. These are stimulants, which may increase your heart rate and cause your blood vessels to constrict. This places extra stress on the heart.

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is just as big an issue in cold winter months as it is in the summer.

Dress in several layers so you can remove a layer as needed.

Warm up your muscles before shoveling, by walking for a few minutes or marching in place. Stretch the muscles in your arms and legs, because warm muscles will work more efficiently and be less likely to be injured.

Pick the right shovel for you. A smaller blade will require you to lift less snow, putting less strain on your body.

Lift with your legs not your back. Bend your knees and keep your back as straight as possible so that the lifting comes from your leg muscles, not your back. Never bend at the waist. Step in the direction that you are throwing snow. This will help prevent the lower back from twisting and will help alleviate any back soreness that you might typically experience the day after a hard shoveling job.

Create some distance between the hands. This will give you more leverage and make it easier to lift snow.

Pick-up smaller loads of snow. It's best to shovel by sections. If you are experiencing snowfall levels of 12-inches or higher, take it easy and shovel 2-inches off at a time.

Do push. Don't lift. Save your back and your energy by simply pushing the snow to the side instead of lifting the snow and throwing it off to the side. Listen to your body. Stop if you feel pain or observe heart attack warning signs. These may include chest pain as well as shoulder, neck or arm pain; dizziness, fainting, sweating or nausea; or shortness of breath. If you think you're having a heart attack, seek medical help immediately.

Snow Throwers Safety Tips

Read the snow thrower equipment owner's manual thoroughly and understand all recommended operating and safety procedures before turning on the snow thrower.
Clear the intended snow removal area of potential flying objects, such as stones or toys, before you begin throwing snow; loose objects can project out of the snow thrower and hit nearby people and objects. Be aware of objects hidden under the snow.
Never smoke when filling the gas tank. Avoid gasoline spills (be good to Mother Nature.)
Never put your hands in the snow thrower chute for any reason. When the snow is wet, the snow thrower chute may become clogged. When this happens, turn off the snow thrower engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop. Then, with a cleanout tool, clear the chute. Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2. It is held in the United States and Canada. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that Winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and Winter will continue for six more weeks. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where crowds as high as 40,000 have gathered to celebrate the holiday since at least 1886. Many towns that celebrate Groundhog Day throughout North America have Winter-predicting groundhogs. By far, the most notable groundhog is Punxsutawney Phil of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The 1993 comedy movie Groundhog Day takes place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on this day. The main character (played by Bill Murray) is forced to relive the day over and over again until he can learn to give up his selfishness and become a better person. In popular culture, the phrase "Groundhog Day" has come to represent going through a phenomenon over and over until one spiritually transcends it.

It is my pleasure to respond to some critics of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man who view my passion for yard safety as ridiculous. I have met many people during my travels that have been very supportive of my yard safety campaign featuring Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm). Likewise, I have encountered some people who view me as a flake and silly goose. On the surface, my campaign may appear silly; it is intended to educate and entertain, leading to increased yard safety awareness and caution. In essence, I am the first yard safety super hero in the history of the world™. Nonetheless, I can assure you that this campaign is not a joke. I had a lawn mower accident that cost me part of my body, cost me thousands of dollars, cost me several attractive career opportunities, cost me hardship with my friends and family, cost me frustration, pain, and suffering, cost me my reputation, cost me future surgeries and health complications, etc. In a positive light, I have gained a deeper gratitude for what I do and still have as well as several positive awakenings. Likewise, I can rest assured that the millions of other individuals who have experienced yard accidents can state similar stories to varying degrees. In short, you may think that this campaign is silly until someone gets hurt. At the very least, if you still think it is silly, then you have been granted awareness. For instance, please do not take a child for a ride while mowing the grass with a riding lawn mower; many children fall off resulting in amputated limbs. Then, you are a silly goose. Be careful. Kwanzaa is a week-long holiday celebrated primarily in the United States honoring African heritage, marked by participants lighting a kinara (candle holder). It is observed from December 26 to January 1 each year. Kwanzaa consists of seven days of celebration, featuring activities such as candle-lighting and pouring of libations, and culminating in a feast and gift giving. Happy Hanukkah!

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights or Festival of Rededication, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that starts on the 25th day of Kislev, which may be in December, late November, or, while very rare in occasion, early January (as was the case for the Hanukkah of 2005–2006).

The holiday was called Hanukkah meaning "dedication" because it marks the re-dedication of the Temple after its desecration under Antiochus IV. Spiritually, Hanukkah commemorates the Miracle of the Oil. According to the Talmud, at the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem following the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire, there was only enough consecrated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple for one day. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days - which was the length of time it took to press, prepare and consecrate new oil.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is concerned about underreported work-related injuries, illnesses, and death statistics. I have been concerned with the accuracy of nationwide workplace data. Also, I am concerned with the compilation and accuracy of all accident data, including both work and non-related accidents and incidents. Needless to say, it is encouraging to see that Congressional action has been taken to get a better understanding of the reporting and underreporting process to achieve a more accurate picture of safety. Work-Related Injuries Underreported

Employers and workers routinely underreport work-related injuries and illnesses, calling into question the accuracy of nationwide data that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration compiles each year, the Government Accountability Office said Monday.
The report, by the G.A.O., the auditing arm of Congress, said many employers did not report workplace injuries and illnesses for fear of increasing their workers’ compensation costs or hurting their chances of winning contracts.
The report also said workers did not report job-related injuries because they feared being fired or disciplined and worried that their co-workers might lose rewards, like bonuses or steak dinners, as part of safety-based incentive programs.
“The widespread underreporting so clearly documented in this report is undermining the health and safety of American workers,” said Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa and chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. “If we don’t know the full extent of the workplace hazards workers face, we cannot fully address these risks.”
Mr. Harkin was one of the Congressional leaders who requested the report.
In response to the report, which examined OSHA’s audits from 2005 to 2007, the safety administration said it would adopt the accountability office’s recommendations, which include requiring inspectors to interview employees during all audits to check the accuracy of employer-provided injury data.
The accountability office noted that the rate of workplace injuries — there were 4 million in 2007, including 5,600 fatalities — has declined fairly steadily since 1992, which OSHA attributed to improvements in workplace safety and the decline in the number of manufacturing jobs.
But the G.A.O. report cited several academic studies that found that OSHA data failed to include up to two-thirds of all workplace injuries and illnesses.
The report noted that because of OSHA’s “sole reliance on employer-reported injury and illness data” in one of its major surveys, “some academic studies have reported that the survey may undercount the total number of workplace injuries and illnesses.”
The accountability office also found that more than a third of the occupational health practitioners it surveyed said that employers or workers had pressured them to provide insufficient medical treatment to hide or play down work-related injuries or illnesses.
The safety and health administration requires employers with more than 10 workers to record every work-related injury or illness that results in lost work time or medical treatment other than first aid. Some occupational health practitioners say that to avoid recording an injury, some employers will try to limit treatment for a serious injury to just first aid.
In other cases, the practitioners said, employers might seek alternative diagnoses if the initial diagnosis would result in a recordable injury or illness.
One manager took an injured worker to several medical providers until the manager found one who would certify that treatment required only first aid, thus making it an injury that did not have to be recorded, one practitioner told researchers, according to the report. Many employers fear that reporting numerous injuries will prompt a full-scale OSHA inspection.
The accountability office said that 53 percent of health practitioners had reported experiencing pressure from company officials to play down injuries or illnesses, and that 47 percent had reported experiencing this pressure from workers.
“This report confirms that when it comes to the documenting of workplace injuries, we can’t just take employers at their word,” said Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington and chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety. “The system, to this point, has been all too easy to game.”
According to the G.A.O. report, 67 percent of the 1,187 occupational health practitioners surveyed had reported observing worker fear of disciplinary action for reporting an injury or illness, and 46 percent said this fear had some impact on the accuracy of employers’ injury and illness records.
One reason workers fail to report injuries, the report said, was that their employers required drug testing after incidents resulting in reported injuries or illnesses, regardless of any evidence of drug use.
The report also questioned employers’ safety incentive programs, which reward workers when their worksites have few recordable injuries or illnesses.
While these programs can promote safe behavior, the report said three-quarters of health practitioners said they believed that workers sometimes avoided reporting work-related injuries and illnesses as a result of these programs because they feared that doing so would cause them or their co-workers to miss the chance of winning prizes.

Thanksgiving is a traditional North American holiday to give thanks at the conclusion of the harvest season. In keeping with the holiday theme of giving thanks, during the socializing or meal, people talk about what they are thankful for or tell about experiences during the past year which have caused them to feel grateful. Families and friends gather for a reunion, a day of thanks, and a festive meal.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to express his gratitude for the many individuals and families who have expressed concern and support over the years. Thanks for giving! Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a “caped crusader” working tirelessly to promote yard safety awareness and to rescue individuals from getting hurt. I will be going trick-or-treat from house-to-house to share my Halloween treat - yard safety awareness leaflet.

In the Fall, individuals often use their lawn mowers to mulch fallen leaves. The slippery leaves contribute to the increased risk of a lawn mower accident. Watch out for sticks and objects hidden by the leaves as well as slippery slopes. Halloween affords yet another fun time to share the preventive yard safety message in another unique way.

Amish Amputee

I became aware of a local 6-year old Amish boy who lost both of his feet in a lawn mower accident. I attended a fund raising dinner for little Reuben Hostetler in Fredonia, Pennsylvania to help the family pay for medical bills. I met the parents Andrew and Rachel Hostetler, and I shared my passion for yard safety awareness to prevent these accidents from happening to other individuals, families, and institutions. Also, I donated some Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man silicone wristbands and leaflets for the family to raise funds and to disperse the yard safety message. I met Reuben. He was a little Amish kid having fun and spinning around in his new wheelchair. Like many lawn mower amputees, he will require much medical attention and care. Left Behind

In September 2003, I had a severe lawn mower accident that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot. In response, I developed a deep passion to promote yard safety awareness, including the development of various yard safety products and services. For instance, I recognized the need and opportunity to develop yard safety software that both educates and entertains. Since I graduated from the Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business with concentrations in marketing and entrepreneurship, I contacted several key individuals at Carnegie Mellon in the business, computer science, entertainment technology center, public policy, psychology, and robotics departments about collaborating on the development of edutainment safety software. In response to my idea and efforts, Carnegie Mellon launched a few spin-off safety edutainment software companies. For instance, Etcetera Edutainment was launched without me to develop workplace safety edutainment software. If I did not have a severe lawn mower accident that chopped-off part of my foot as well as my desire and passion to collaborate with Carnegie Mellon, Etcetera Edutainment would not exist. Given the grand resources of Carnegie Mellon, Etcetera Edutainment continues to evolve and flourish. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man was left behind hitting a Dr. Randy Pausch brick wall - still waiting to discover the head fake. Nonetheless, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man strives to develop yard safety edutainment software, etcetera.

In addition, I have been an innovator of various yard safety products and services. I have networked with thousands of contacts ranging from government, corporations, health care, trade associations, insurance companies, media & entertainment companies, colleges and universities, etcetera.

Also, I look forward to making appearances and networking during the G-20 Summit. I strive to win the Nobel Prize for my work to advance yard safety as well as the Pausch Prize for my efforts to promote interdisciplinary collaboration on enhancing safety. Independence Day is regarded as the birthday of the United States as a free and independent nation. Most Americans simply call it the "Fourth of July," on which date it always falls. It is a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks.

Also, it is a day involving many activities in the lawn. Across America, millions of individuals and families will grass cut their lawns in preparation for the celebration of America's birthday. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man wants to encourage the safe operation of outdoor power equipment. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that hospitals emergency rooms treat more than 400,000 outdoor garden-tool-related accidents each year.

Head Fake

I wish that I could have a conversation with the late Dr. Randy Pausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor of computer science and design and co-founder of the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC). Also, Dr. Pausch was the presenter of the infamous “Last Lecture.” I had some correspondence with him and the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University in 2004-2005 in response to a traumatic lawn mower injury that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot. I recognize that the traditional consumer and industrial product safety manuals were not effective in communicating how to properly use a product or equipment safely. Actually, I believe that the actual number of people who even read owner’s manuals is a very small percentage. Therefore, I shuffled to Pittsburgh on several occasions to search out the world-class Carnegie Mellon computer science, drama, psychology, and business departments to pursue my vision of edutainment yard safety software in order to educate and entertain the millions of users of outdoor power equipment how to operate yard equipment in safe manner. Furthermore, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that 200,000 individuals get hurt each year using outdoor power equipment. It is a serious complex problem. I remember sending emails, having conversations, and dropping-off Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man leaflets with various individuals at Carnegie Mellon, including the Entertainment Technology Center. Despite a valiant effort of hitting several Randy Pausch “brick walls,” I learned that Carnegie Mellon launched a spin-off company called Etcetera Edutainment to focus on workplace safety applying gaming and simulation technology. I am still trying to figure-out the proverbial Randy Pausch “head fake” related to this evolution without me. Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is a yard safety super hero that is here today so that yard accidents go away. I wish that I could talk with Dr. Randy Pausch because I know that he would tell me the truth and be fair with me regarding my concerns. Why the brick wall? What is the head fake? Within the first few statements of his lecture, titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” Randy Pausch illustrated that he plans to live the time he has left to the fullest. “We can’t change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand. If I’m not as depressed as you think I should be, I’m sorry to disappoint you,” said Pausch, who was diagnosed a little over a year ago with pancreatic cancer.

Doctors recently told him he only has five months to live.

Pausch, a professor of computer science and design and co-founder of the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), stressed that everyone can achieve their childhood dreams if they try hard enough, but that it is more important to help others achieve their dreams also.

The lecture contained both humor and wisdom as Pausch explained that others can get past the “brick walls” (things that get in the way of their dreams), just as he did, and, like him, achieve all their goals.

Pausch’s determination to help others is reflected in the impact he has had on his students and all students who went through the ETC program. Laura Pliskin, who will graduate in December with a master’s degree in entertainment technology, said she might still be working in retail were it not for Pausch, though she never had him as a professor.

“I had earned my undergraduate degree in art, but had a hard time finding a job,” Pliskin said. She met Pausch when he was shopping for an anniversary gift for his parents at the store where she worked, EngraveYard. Pausch told her about the ETC, a graduate program that he had co-founded with Don Marinelli, the executive producer, in 1998.

The ETC, as Pausch said in his lecture, involves “artists and technologists working in small teams to make things,” meaning that the ETC strives to create media that focuses on both its artistic and technological qualities. In addition to the ETC, the professor also developed Alice, interactive software that helps students learn computer programming in a hands-on and engaging manner.

Although Pausch had a hand in many of Carnegie Mellon’s classes and programs, in his lecture the professor encouraged students to “focus on others, not [themselves].” “Randy encouraged us to be forces for good. There are enough people out there making zombie extermination games,” said Phil Light, a student of Pausch’s who graduated last spring from the ETC.

Light and two teammates started Electric Owl Studios, a company devoted to making electronic toys that entertain children while they are undergoing a hospital visit or cancer treatment.

Another of Pausch’s students, Mark Tomczak, who graduated in 2005 with a B.S. degree in computer science, took Pausch’s class Building Virtual Worlds as an undergraduate student. He currently works to create training worlds for occupations such as firefighters and police officers.

“Randy believes people are capable of more than they think they are, and encouraged us to push as far as we could,” Tomczak said.

Tomczak couldn’t have taken Building Virtual Worlds without Pausch’s help, he explained. It was Pausch who convinced administrators that undergraduate students were capable of handling the course’s graduate-level coursework and should be allowed to have access to the course.

“The only reason there are undergrads in there is because Randy believed in us,” Tomczak said. “It was the single greatest experience I had in my educational career.”

At the end of the lecture, Pausch posed a final question to the audience.

“Have you figured out the head-fake?” he asked.

A ‘head-fake,’ he explained earlier, occurs when someone is taught a deeper lesson under the pretense of learning something simple — when a high school football player learns determination, teamwork, and perseverance while seeming to learn a proper three-point stance, for instance.

Give up?

“It’s not about how to achieve your dreams,” Pausch said. “It’s about how to lead your life.”

Father's Day

It is FATHER'S DAY this Sunday, June 21, 2009. It is important for FATHERS around the world to teach their children about yard safety. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Also, I want to offer my condolences and sympathies to those individuals and families whose fathers have passed away.

In particular, I want to take a moment and reflect and pay tribute to my dad, Robert N. Mudrinich (December 22, 1930 - November 13, 1995). My dad died November 13, 1995. My dad was the greatest man that I have ever known. He was Christ-like in many ways, and he was very resourceful and patient. He reached out to those less fortunate as well as those more fortunate. He was self-taught on many levels. He was an innovative and inventive genius. My dad really was a super hero. Therefore, it is no wonder that I want to save the world from yard accidents. My dad would have been the biggest fan and ingenious supporter of the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man yard safety advocacy. Now, my dad lives with Jesus; his body rests in Morefield Cemetery located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. My dad was a saint. He would have worn a Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man T-Shirt around town with pride until it was threads. In many ways, I do not think that my dad would be surprised by my passion to reach out to other people. He would embrace Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man, while some others think I am just an idiot. I wish that he still lived on Earth. I miss my dad. I really loved my dad. He was a great man. Before I die, I want to ride a lawn mower across America and then continue around the world. I want to be buried in my Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man super hero costume.

Army Armadillo was born to highlight the need for personal protective equipment. Toxy Turfy advocates yard chemical safety. Shaky focuses on health and machine vibration concerns. Zilch is a number man who keeps count of yard accidents and dreams of the number zero when the goal of zero yard accidents is finally achieved. There is still work that needs to be done. I was a marketing and entrepreneurship major with a natural passion for small business. I want to find a cure for outdoor power equipment accidents. I graduated from the Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business (MBA 1993), and I have become an advocate and promoter of yard safety, featuring my character Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm). Incidentally, I had a lawn mower accident about a year ago that resulted in the partial amputation of my left foot.
It is the Spring Season. Each year, there are about 100,000 lawn mower and 400,000 garden-tool-related accidents, as well as over 200 fatalities. During the past year, I have developed some relationships with various organizations with an attempt of spearheading a collaborative effort to finally solve this problem. During some preliminary conversations, I have been told that the majority of outdoor power equipment accidents could have been prevented; they are the result of “stupid human tricks” and “lack of common sense.” Apparently, there is a significant disconnect between human behavior and the real danger of the outdoor power equipment. I liken my observation to the electric bug zapper lights; the bug does not think it will get hurt until it is fried to a crisp. For some strange reason, most people are very careless and lack awareness with regards to the frequency and severity of these often times brutal and life-altering accidents. They do not think that they will get hurt until it is too late. My new life goal is to reduce outdoor power equipment accidents to zero.
I recognize that Carnegie Mellon University has one of the top psychology programs in the world, especially in cognitive psychology. I would be thrilled to speak with the appropriate individual regarding this significant phenomenon that results in so many yard accidents each year.

Apparently, Carnegie Mellon decided to create the spin-off company Etcetera Edutainment to focus on industry safety applications.
I received a phone call from Jessica Trybus to discuss RRtGCM and yard safety.
Jessica Trybus spent time at the Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business entrepreneurship center seeking some guidance regarding business problems to apply entertainment technology applications.
At Tepper, Jessica Trybus was enlightened on the existence of Richard Mudrinich and the innovations of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man in the world of yard safety – an inspiration for workplace safety and the eventual lauch of Etcetera Edutainment.
I have followed-up with Jessica Trybus about collaborating on yard safety edutainment software – to no avail.
Also, I contacted the Carnegie Mellon West Campus in Mountain View, California to introduce the concept of edutainment related to yard safety, including yard safety footwear.
I really believe that Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man influenced their decision to pursue the safety educational market niche.
